I most often support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction. I understand that addiction is often a response to deep emotional pain, frequently connected to unresolved trauma, and I approach this work with genuine compassion and respect for the complexity of each person’s story. As a therapist, I’m friendly, dependable, compassionate, and easy to connect with, and I’m deeply invested in creating a space where you can feel supported and at ease. My focus is on helping you reconnect with a sense of internal safety, build meaningful self awareness, and develop a more caring and grounded relationship with yourself. I aim to create an environment that feels steady, encouraging, and even a little bit light when it’s helpful, one where healing, resilience, and alignment can grow. Ultimately, my goal is to help you strengthen your capacity to live with authenticity, clarity, and emotional freedom.

I was raised in Memphis, TN. I then attended college in Nashville TN where I received a BS degree. I got married while in college. We moved to Raleigh, NC after graduation. We've been married over 40 years. Once we moved to NC we began providing foster care for older children and teenagers. After several years we decided to move to long-term foster care for young children and adopted six children over the next 8 years. My wife joined our oldest daughter on a mission trip to Guatemala where they met our next son, who we adopted over the next two years. He was able to join us just before his 12th birthday. I began working for the USPS once we moved to NC. After working there for 10 years, I realized that I wanted to change careers and fulfill the dream of helping others in a more practical way. I took a break from work and obtained a MA in Counseling. After receiving my LPC license, I worked in various settings within the counseling field. I have worked in Child Protective Services, worked for a couple of mental health clinics, held a private practice, worked in crisis intervention for 10 years in a hospital setting, returned to the clinic setting, and have once again opened a private practice. I am now licensed as a LCMHC and LCAS in NC.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time;accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; This prayer stays near my heart as it has helped me remain resilient during my personal times of hardship. As a former foster child who entered foster care at the age of 12 and aged out, I have a passion for serving children and adolescents who have similar experiences. However, this does not limit my empathy for serving individuals and groups who are committed to improving their mental health. I am an older sister of 10 siblings (8 of them being all boys). Therefore, I have the skills, abilities, and patience to build therapeutic relationships with children and adolescents seeking to build resilience and fortitude in improving their mental health and well-being. My approach to therapy includes, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Solutions-Focused. I love to listen to music in my free time as well as spend time with friends and family enjoying a competitive game night. Looking forward to working with you!

Hi, I’m Megan! I’m a licensed therapist in New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina who helps people feeling burned out, anxious, or stuck in survival mode reconnect with balance and purpose. Many of my clients come to me after feeling overwhelmed by work, relationships, or the constant pressure to keep going — even when they’re running on empty. I create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can slow down, make sense of what’s been weighing on you, and learn healthier ways to cope. My style is compassionate and collaborative — I meet you where you are and help you build practical tools for stress, boundaries, and self-care that actually fit your life. Before starting my private practice, I worked in behavioral health settings supporting individuals living with substance use, bipolar disorder, and other chronic mental health conditions. That experience taught me that healing isn’t one-size-fits-all — and that real change happens when therapy feels safe, personalized, and empowering. If you’re ready to move from burnout to balance, I’d love to help you take that next step.

Or maybe you are emotionally shutdown and just feel numb. Past traumatic events cause you to react to life in unhealthy ways. Intrusive thoughts keep distracting you from what you need to do each day. And you don’t understand why or how to change it. If any of this sounds familiar, there is hope! Hello, I’m Dulcie. Have you been struggling and wondering why it’s so hard to feel happy, have a positive outlook, and accomplish the goals you have for your life? Are feelings of disappointment, confusion, and failure contributing to problems with your emotional health and relationships? Do you feel like nothing will ever change so what’s the point in trying? Well, let me tell you why, you are worth it and it’s never too late to invest in YOU! I have many years of experience counseling great people just like you, working together to navigate life’s obstacles, find common sense solutions, and help guide and support you during life transitions. If you allow me to go on this journey of change with you, I will focus on a person-centered approach where your needs, goals, and objectives will be the roadmap for our work together. I will use evidence-based treatment techniques, largely based on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you identify and change patterns in thinking and behavior that may be contributing to your current dissatisfaction. But perhaps even more important than the therapeutic approach employed, I will endeavor to build a relationship with you by being present, genuine, honest, and compassionate. I have learned that the outcomes my clients achieve are often a reflection of the strength of our therapeutic relationship. So, are you ready to partner with me as you endeavor to overcome the situations, relationship challenges, or symptoms that seem to be barriers between you and your best life? If so, I am committed to walking with you on your journey.

I am a professional counselor, consultant, human development and nature healing specialist. I am licensed with the state of North Carolina Board for Licensed Professional Counselors (#6516) and a National Certified Counselor (#229164). I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1996 and both Masters and Specialists degrees of Education in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida in August of 2000. My continuing ed & training focus has mainly been on trauma and dissociation throughout the last 26 years. The majority of my life experiences have centered around learning as much as I can about trauma and dissociation; how we can increase our awareness in order to increase our "window of realness." We often hear about improving our "window of tolerance" in order to tolerate the ever more increasing demands of our world. By increasing our "Window of realness" we move toward our most authentic selves. I often use an eclectic approach bringing together a variety of types of therapy to help my clients express what they need to express from the various different developmental levels that traumatic material gets stuck within. For example in one session you may find we start out by talking and end by drawing, playing, or dancing. Whatever brings you in: trauma, grief, struggling with dissociation, anxiety or depression, it's my hope that by providing a soft place to land, you will feel comfortable enough in your own skin to begin to be curious to explore what's on your mind. You'll feel acknowledged, respected and empowered as an individual, as a human being, with rights and needs, through the compassionate and empathic way that I will relate with you. From, the very first session, you can begin to claim back your power.

Personalized matching

This ensures you find someone who truly understands your experiences and can provide the most effective treatment based on your needs.

Flexible availability

We know that when you’re ready for therapy, you shouldn’t have to wait. Our therapists often maintain flexible scheduling with morning, afternoon, and weekend availability, typically allowing you to book your first session within two days.

Insurance-friendly options

Many of our North Carolina anxiety therapists accept major insurance plans, and you could pay as little as $0 with coverage, with most paying $21/session on average with their insurance. We help you navigate insurance benefits so you can focus on what matters most – your mental health. Want to know what therapy might cost with your insurance? Check out our therapy cost estimate calculator.

Understanding anxiety treatment options in North Carolina

Anxiety treatment has evolved significantly over the years, and today there are numerous evidence-based approaches that can effectively help you manage and overcome anxiety symptoms. The good news is that you have options – from traditional talk therapy methods to newer, innovative techniques, there’s likely a treatment approach that will resonate with your learning style and personal preferences. Below are some of the most common and effective therapeutic approaches our North Carolina therapists use to help clients find relief from anxiety.

Examples of evidence-based approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A commonly used method for anxiety treatment, CBT helps you identify and challenge negative thought patterns while developing practical coping strategies. Many of our North Carolina therapists specialize in CBT techniques specifically adapted for anxiety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Particularly effective for anxiety with emotional regulation challenges, DBT combines cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help you manage intense emotions and reduce anxiety symptoms.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy: Incorporating meditation and awareness of the present moment, this approach helps you develop a healthier relationship with anxious thoughts and feelings rather than fighting against them.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT focuses on accepting anxiety while committing to actions aligned with your values, helping you live a fulfilling life despite anxious feelings.

Specialized anxiety treatment areas

Our North Carolina therapists have expertise in treating various anxiety-related issues, including:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder: Persistent, excessive worry about everyday situations
  • Social anxiety: Fear of social situations and being judged by others
  • Panic disorder: Recurring panic attacks and fear of future episodes
  • Specific phobias: Intense fear of particular objects, situations, or activities

How to find the right anxiety therapist in North Carolina

What to look for in an anxiety therapist

Credentials and experience: Look for licensed therapists (e.g. LMFT, LICSW/LCSW, LPCC, or psychologists) with specific training in anxiety. When searching the Grow Therapy online therapy platform, you will see a clear display of each therapist’s credentials, years of experience, and specialty areas.

Therapeutic approach alignment: Consider which therapeutic approaches resonate with you. Some people prefer structured, skills-based approaches like CBT, while others may benefit from more exploratory or mindfulness-based methods.

To find a therapist by treatment method, you can use the “Treatment Methods” filter above. You may also double check a therapist’s treatment methods by viewing the “My treatment method” section on their profile page. To learn more about the types of therapy available, check out our guide on the different types of therapy.

Availability and scheduling: Choose a therapist whose schedule aligns with yours. Many of our North Carolina providers offer both virtual and in-person sessions, providing flexibility for your busy lifestyle.

Insurance acceptance: Verify that your preferred therapist accepts your insurance plan. We make this easy by showing accepted insurances for each therapist.

Overcoming common barriers to anxiety treatment

Cost concerns: Many people worry about the cost of therapy, but with insurance coverage and a large network of in-person and online therapists on Grow Therapy who accept various plans, treatment can be more affordable than you think. We’re here to help you understand your benefits and find cost-effective options.

Time constraints: Anxiety often makes daily tasks feel overwhelming, and finding time for therapy can seem impossible. Our flexible scheduling options, including evening and weekend appointments, plus virtual sessions, make it easier to prioritize your mental health.

Stigma and privacy: It’s natural to feel hesitant about seeking help, but remember that anxiety is a treatable mental health condition. At Grow Therapy, we have built our online therapy platform to prioritize your privacy and connect you with understanding professionals who create safe, judgment-free spaces.

Finding the right fit: Not every therapist is the right match for every person, and that’s okay. Our detailed provider profiles and filtering options help you find someone who aligns with your preferences and needs. If you find the provider you choose is not the right fit, Grow Therapy makes it easy to switch and find a new provider who better fits your needs and what you’re seeking in your care.

Getting started with anxiety therapy in North Carolina

What to expect in your first session

Your first therapy session is designed to help you and your therapist get to know each other and begin understanding your anxiety experiences. Your therapist will likely ask about:

  • Your current anxiety symptoms and triggers
  • How anxiety impacts your daily life
  • Your personal and family mental health history
  • Your goals for treatment
  • Any previous therapy experiences

This initial session is also your opportunity to ask questions about the therapeutic process, your therapist’s approach, and what you can expect moving forward. To learn more about the therapy process, check out our guide to going to therapy.

Preparing for your anxiety treatment journey

Questions to Ask Your Therapist:

  • What is your experience helping people who have signs of anxiety?
  • What therapeutic approaches do you use for anxiety?
  • How long does treatment typically take?
  • What can I do between sessions to support my progress?
  • How will we measure progress?

Setting realistic expectations: Anxiety treatment is a process, not a quick fix. While many people experience some relief early in treatment, developing lasting coping skills and seeing significant symptom reduction typically takes time and consistent effort.

Developing coping strategies: Your therapist will work with you to develop personalized coping strategies that you can use both in and outside of your sessions. These might include breathing exercises, grounding techniques, challenging unhelpful thoughts, or mindfulness practices.

Insurance and affordability for anxiety treatment in North Carolina

Making therapy accessible

Insurance coverage options: Many major insurance plans cover mental health treatment, including therapy for anxiety. Our North Carolina therapists accept a wide range of insurance providers, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and many others. Insurance providers do vary by state, however, so please verify that your insurance is available in North Carolina.

Understanding your benefits: We help you understand your mental health benefits, including copays, deductibles, and coverage limits. This transparency allows you to make informed decisions about your care. To learn more about how therapy and insurance work together, check out our guide to understanding insurance for therapy.

Additional support options: For those without insurance or with limited coverage, many of our therapists offer cash options, and employee assistance programs (EAPs) through your workplace may also provide free or low-cost counseling sessions.
