Hi, I’m Kendrick Burden, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker passionate about helping people reconnect with their truest selves. I work with individuals who are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, and high-pressure transitions especially when life feels heavy or unclear. Whether you're processing loss, healing from old wounds, or trying to realign with who you were created to be, therapy is a space to pause, reflect, and move forward with intention. My approach blends evidence-based tools like EMDR, CBT, and ACT with compassion and faith-based support when desired. Together, we’ll identify what’s been holding you back and chart a new path grounded in your values and strengths. My hope is to help you feel more anchored, more empowered, and more at peace with the life you’re creating.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, you can expect a calm, judgment-free space where you don’t have to perform or have it all figured out. I’ll guide us through a conversation that helps me understand what’s bringing you in, what you’re carrying, and what you’re hoping to change or feel differently about. There’s no pressure to share everything at once we’ll move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you. We'll explore your goals for therapy, talk about what’s been working (and what hasn’t), and begin identifying patterns that may be impacting how you show up in your life and relationships. I may ask some questions about your history, but only to help me see the full picture and better tailor the support you need. By the end of the session, my goal is for you to walk away with a clearer understanding of how we’ll work together and a sense of relief that you don’t have to carry it all alone anymore. This is your space, and I’m here to walk with you through the healing process with compassion, honesty, and care.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What makes my approach unique is the balance I bring between emotional depth, practical tools, and a deeply human connection. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. I take time to truly understand your story not just what’s happened to you, but how you’ve carried it, what you’ve learned from it, and what kind of life you want to build moving forward. I draw from a wide range of evidence-based methods—EMDR, CBT, ACT, and CPT, so we can tailor therapy to your needs and values. Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, relational stress, or performance pressure, my approach helps you get to the root of what’s holding you back and equips you with the tools to move forward with clarity and confidence. My experience spans both academic and community-based work. I’ve supported individuals in high-pressure educational environments, helping them manage stress, identity shifts, and burnout. I’ve also spent many years as a social worker walking alongside individuals and families in lower socioeconomic communities helping them navigate real-life challenges, achieve their goals, and strengthen their family systems. This range of experience has shaped my ability to meet people where they are, with empathy, insight, and respect for their lived realities. At the core, my approach is relational, collaborative, and hope-focused. I’m here to help you not just cope, but truly heal, grow, and move toward the life you were meant to live.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I’m best positioned to serve individuals who are high-functioning on the outside but wrestling with overwhelm, self-doubt, or unresolved emotional pain on the inside. Many of the clients I work with are ambitious, thoughtful, and deeply reflective but they often carry the weight of old wounds, unspoken grief, or pressure to always “have it together.” You may be the one others turn to, but you're wondering who holds space for you. Maybe you’re navigating a season of transition, healing from relational hurt, or trying to find your way back to yourself after burnout, heartbreak, or loss. You want to show up more fully in your life, but emotional blocks, unhelpful beliefs, or past trauma keep getting in the way. My dream clients are the ones who are open even if hesitant to do the deeper work. You don’t have to know how to heal yet; you just need the willingness to start. Together, we’ll create a space that honors both your pain and your potential. Through trauma-informed, faith-integrated, and evidence-based care, we’ll work toward emotional clarity, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of who you are so you can live with more peace, purpose, and confidence.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

In my practice, I often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients build emotional flexibility and reconnect with what matters most to them. Rather than trying to eliminate painful thoughts or emotions, ACT teaches us how to make space for them while still moving toward the life we want to live. For clients navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, or performance pressure, ACT offers powerful tools to observe inner experiences without judgment, clarify personal values, and take committed action. Together, we focus on helping you respond more mindfully to life’s challenges, reduce emotional avoidance, and build a life that reflects your values even in the presence of fear or uncertainty. Whether it’s learning to sit with discomfort, practice self-compassion, or take small steps toward your goals, ACT aligns with my belief that healing comes from showing up fully and courageously in your own story.

EMDR

I also incorporate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as a powerful tool to help clients process and heal from past trauma, emotional wounds, or distressing life events. EMDR works by targeting the memories or experiences that feel "stuck" and helping the brain reprocess them in a way that reduces emotional intensity and promotes clarity. In our work together, we create a safe and supportive space to gradually explore these memories, using bilateral stimulation to support your brain’s natural healing process. Clients often find that EMDR helps them gain new insights, release old narratives, and experience emotional relief without having to relive every detail of the trauma. Whether you're carrying the weight of childhood wounds, a recent loss, or a painful breakup, EMDR can support your journey toward feeling more grounded, empowered, and in control of your story.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is another approach I use to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. Many people I work with feel overwhelmed by patterns of overthinking, self-criticism, or hopelessness. CBT offers a structured and supportive way to identify these patterns and begin challenging the beliefs that keep you feeling stuck. In session, we work together to reframe unhelpful thoughts, build more balanced perspectives, and practice new coping strategies that align with your goals. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or challenges in relationships, CBT helps you take small, meaningful steps toward emotional clarity and improved daily functioning. My goal is to help you feel more empowered not just to think differently, but to live differently, with greater confidence, resilience, and self-awareness.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based approach I use to help clients work through trauma and the beliefs that often follow painful experiences. When something deeply distressing happens, it's common to internalize thoughts like “It was my fault” or “I can’t trust anyone,” which can lead to ongoing guilt, shame, or disconnection. CPT helps us gently examine those beliefs, understand where they come from, and begin shifting the narrative toward truth, healing, and self-compassion. In our sessions, we’ll explore how trauma may have impacted how you see yourself, others, and the world and use structured, yet compassionate tools to help you move forward. CPT isn’t about forgetting the past; it’s about reclaiming your voice, your values, and your sense of safety in the present.

Christian Counseling

For clients who desire to integrate their faith into the therapeutic process, I offer Christian counseling as a space to explore healing through both clinical insight and spiritual truth. This approach allows us to draw from Scripture, prayer, and Christ-centered principles while also honoring your lived experiences and emotional needs. Whether you're navigating grief, anxiety, relational challenges, or questions about purpose, Christian counseling offers a framework that supports emotional wellness and spiritual growth. I meet each person where they are in their faith journey never to judge or impose, but to walk alongside you with empathy, wisdom, and encouragement. Together, we can explore how your beliefs can be a source of strength, clarity, and hope as you work toward healing and wholeness.
