I was raised in Memphis, TN. I then attended college in Nashville TN where I received a BS degree. I got married while in college. We moved to Raleigh, NC after graduation. We've been married over 40 years. Once we moved to NC we began providing foster care for older children and teenagers. After several years we decided to move to long-term foster care for young children and adopted six children over the next 8 years. My wife joined our oldest daughter on a mission trip to Guatemala where they met our next son, who we adopted over the next two years. He was able to join us just before his 12th birthday. I began working for the USPS once we moved to NC. After working there for 10 years, I realized that I wanted to change careers and fulfill the dream of helping others in a more practical way. I took a break from work and obtained a MA in Counseling. After receiving my LPC license, I worked in various settings within the counseling field. I have worked in Child Protective Services, worked for a couple of mental health clinics, held a private practice, worked in crisis intervention for 10 years in a hospital setting, returned to the clinic setting, and have once again opened a private practice. I am now licensed as a LCMHC and LCAS in NC.

Hi there, I am Jen. Do you want to improve the quality of your life? Do you want to make long-lasting changes that improve areas of your life such as work and relationships? I empower clients to overcome the daily challenges of dealing with such issues as depression (or other mood disorders), anxiety, PTSD/Trauma, and grief. I'm here to help clients (ages 10 & up) get back to a place in their life where they feel more balanced, secure and to a place where they feel happy with their overall quality of life. I do believe in a holistic approach that focuses on the mind-body-spirit connection. I utilize various techniques that include mindfulness, helping you identify and address irrational thoughts, motivational interviewing and more. I work with clients to identify treatment goals at their 1st appointment, if possible and I also like to assign therapeutic "homework" since this helps clients practice and eventually acquire the skills they need to feel better about themselves and their lives. No matter the issue, I'm here to help. Seeking therapy is a brave thing to do and I will provide a safe space to help you heal and grow. In our sessions, I will provide empathy, active listening and humor to help you overcome what is troubling you. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Laurie creates a warm, safe, and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable exploring emotions, challenges, and goals. She values building strong therapeutic relationships as the foundation for growth and healing. She believes that everyone has the capacity for healing, growth, and lasting change, and she is dedicated to helping clients find tools that support their unique journeys. In addition, Laurie is a certified Prepare & Enrich Facilitator, providing specialized support for couples at all stages of their relationships.

Hi, I am a Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in North Carolina. I received my degree from Saybrook University in California and have been practicing for the past 15 years. I have specialized training in Somatic Experiencing and Attachment Therapy. I work with adults to resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies and nervous systems transforming patterns that get stuck and impact our daily life. I support clients in bringing their nervous systems back into balance getting out of fight, flight and freeze to strengthen one's sense of safety, resourcefulness and resilience in the world. Some of the techniques I use are helping clients slow down and attune to what is happening in their bodies. I also work with clients on "resourcing" or finding tools to help them self soothe when they are feeling emotionally overloaded.

I later attended the University of Carolina at Pembroke and earned my MA.Ed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Graduate Certificate in Addictions Counseling. I began my work as a mental health provider working with ex-offenders re-entering society, and I later transitioned into inpatient crisis work for substance use detoxification and mental health stabilization. I am now providing mental health and substance use services in Outpatient therapy to adults from diverse backgrounds. *I do offer a sliding scale and we can discuss during the first session. *

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over five years of experience working with individuals facing anxiety, depression, trauma, self-worth challenges, and relationship or attachment concerns. My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and shift unhelpful patterns, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to build psychological flexibility, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients understand and heal the parts of themselves carrying pain or protection. I incorporate Psychodynamic Therapy to explore how past experiences shape present behavior, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to strengthen motivation and support meaningful, sustainable change. My cultural identity is central to my work. As a young African American woman, I have a deep understanding of generational trauma, systemic barriers, and the resilience that exists within the Black community. These experiences guide me to practice with cultural humility, empathy, and authenticity. I strive to create a space where clients feel genuinely seen, validated, and empowered to explore their inner world safely. Ultimately, I am here to walk alongside you, helping you gain insight, build practical tools, and move toward healing, growth, and the life you envision for yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by North Carolina rather than a city like Charlotte?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across North Carolina from Raleigh to Greensboro! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in North Carolina.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Depression?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Depression, is filtering therapists in North Carolina that work with patients with similar concerns.

What are the "Clients say I’m" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
