Hi there! I am Robert Brown, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based out of North Carolina. I have been practicing for 30 years and have a focus on adults who have experienced depressed mood, anxiety, grief, or trauma. It's always been a privilege for me to serve folks who are ready to create a lasting and meaningful change through our journey together.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session together will be about building a relationship and getting to know one another since trust is the basis for what we will do. I will ask about you, what brought you to see me and what you hope to get out of our time together. We'll also talk about your own history, relationships that you depend upon and what works about being you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

After 30 years of practice, I have learned that the healing is in the relationship and perhaps my most significant strength is a willingness to engage with you without judgment and being present when you need me. I am always available to you around your time, even when you need to reach out at odd hours. This is always about you.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I enjoy working with adults of all ages who have hit a bump in the road or have experienced ongoing emotional challenges and want a safe haven to share their concerns and find real solutions. I work best with folks who are ready to challenge themselves and want to be engaged in the process of enhancing their emotional well-being. My focus is always on you and finding real, concrete strategies to discover the best version of you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been a certified CBT practitioner for 20 years and use it in practice as a skill building exercise to address troubling thoughts that lead to uncomfortable emotions and behaviors. . I use assigned homework to encourage practice throughout the week to recognize and alter patterns that have become habit until. I remain available to my client whenever needed to ensure success.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT as an extension of CBT to focus on acceptance of feelings and experiences rather than avoidance, becoming more mindful of thoughts and feelings instead of judging them.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a tool I use for engaging with a client to find reasons for positive change through support and guidance, goal setting, and problem solving. It achieves results for individual concerns, such as relational issues, chronic disease management, weight loss and smoking cessation that will relieve the challenges creating stress.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I have utilized Trauma Focused CBT for approximately 20 years. It is an evidence based tool that allows my client to reduce symptoms of trauma, learning effective coping strategies, and encourage healing.

Robert Brown was extremely easy to speak with, super kind, and understanding. He is funny, informative, reassuring, and just an overall cool and open person. I trust him to help me to help myself through my past traumas and to help provide me with the tools and confidence to navigate my way forward to better tomorrows. Also, he was super flexible about always being there to provide support if something upsetting comes up that I need to speak about. Appointment times are flexible as well.

My therapist has truly been a blessing in my life. He’s helped me through some of my hardest moments with so much patience, understanding, and honesty. I never feel judged just supported. He knows when to listen and when to challenge me in the best way. I’ve learned so much about myself and how to handle things in healthier ways because of him. I honestly look forward to every session and always leave feeling lighter and more clear headed.
