Hi there! I am Robert Brown, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based out of North Carolina. I have been practicing for 30 years and have a focus on adults who have experienced depressed mood, anxiety, grief, or trauma. It's always been a privilege for me to serve folks who are ready to create a lasting and meaningful change through our journey together.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session together will be about building a relationship and getting to know one another since trust is the basis for what we will do. I will ask about you, what brought you to see me and what you hope to get out of our time together. We'll also talk about your own history, relationships that you depend upon and what works about being you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

After 30 years of practice, I have learned that the healing is in the relationship and perhaps my most significant strength is a willingness to engage with you without judgment and being present when you need me. I am always available to you around your time, even when you need to reach out at odd hours. This is always about you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been a certified CBT practitioner for 20 years and use it in practice as a skill building exercise to address troubling thoughts that lead to uncomfortable emotions and behaviors. . I use assigned homework to encourage practice throughout the week to recognize and alter patterns that have become habit until. I remain available to my client whenever needed to ensure success.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT as an extension of CBT to focus on acceptance of feelings and experiences rather than avoidance, becoming more mindful of thoughts and feelings instead of judging them.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a tool I use for engaging with a client to find reasons for positive change through support and guidance, goal setting, and problem solving. It achieves results for individual concerns, such as relational issues, chronic disease management, weight loss and smoking cessation that will relieve the challenges creating stress.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I have utilized Trauma Focused CBT for approximately 20 years. It is an evidence based tool that allows my client to reduce symptoms of trauma, learning effective coping strategies, and encourage healing.
