Hello, I'm Carrie, an LCSW therapist based in North Carolina. I received my Bachelors from Winston Salem State University and my Master's from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with over ten years of experience as a therapist in many settings with various age groups. I practice therapy to assist others with achieving their goals in the most effective and in a timely manner.
In our first session together, we'll start with introductions, then identify the specific challenges that the client would like to address. This will assist with creating a personalized plan with goals and objectives for us to work towards achieving in follow-up sessions.
My greatest strengths are being an active listener that allows clients to identify what they would like to work towards and assisting with achieving those goals. I am optimistic with my clients' goals and here to support and motivate them to achieve their goals.
I love to work with individuals that are willing and open to change. I am open to a good challenge especially to those that feel they have tried multiple options and have yet to be successful. My ideal clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed and anxious and are ready to develop skills to promote positive outcomes.
I love to utilize CBT to assist clients with identifying triggers to be aware of issues that could prompt behaviors and lead to consequences. This will then assist with decision making and emotional regulation to triggers; and assists with understanding how thoughts affect emotions and behaviors.
I utilize DBT to focus on helping clients accept the reality of their lives and their behaviors, as well as help clients learn to change their lives and promote positive outcomes. I utilize DBT because it is proven to be effective for treating and managing a wide range of mental health conditions, including: Borderline personality disorder (BPD), Self-harm, Suicidal behavior, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Substance use disorder, Eating disorders, specifically binge eating disorder and bulimia, Depression, and Anxiety.
TF-CBT, on the other hand, is specifically designed to address the unique needs of children and adolescents who have endured trauma and involves parental/family support and collaboration as part of the treatment (when these folks did not contribute to the trauma being treated).
Grief therapy is utilized as a type of psychotherapy designed to help clients cope the loss of a loved one or pet, job transitions, moving-related loss, changes in romantic relationships, such as divorce or breakups. I feel clients benefit from grief therapy especially helpful if clients are experiencing: affects your day-to-day life or relationships, causes you excessive guilt, and has prompted symptoms of depression that don’t seem to be improving over time.
I love to utilize Solution Focused Brief Treatment (SFBT) due to the major advantage of its brevity. Instead of SFBT digging into old wounds, more time is spent focusing on resolutions, which makes SFBT great for people who have a specific goal in mind and just need a little help reaching it. SFBT can be used for Depression, Anxiety, Self-esteem, Personal stress and work-related stress, Substance abuse/ addiction, and Relationship problems.
