(he/him)
Hi! I'm a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and licensed clinical addiction counselor (LCAS). I went to graduate school at the University of Vermont and have provided therapy services for more than 30 years in outpatient mental health settings as well as in inpatient psychiatric and addiction treatment settings. I'm in long-term recovery from alcohol and opiate dependence. Also, I am developing a specialty in working with lawyers. Fun fact: I worked on an offshore lobster boat in the Gulf of Maine for 4 years.
In our initial session, I can answer any questions that you have about the therapy experience. You can provide me with a description of your understanding of the situation that you find yourself in. We can determine some initial goals of therapy and discuss strategies to achieve those goals. My approach is very client-centered and can be adapted to either short or long-term approaches. Working to co-create an image of a more satisfying future is always a goal.
I have worked with individuals and families in crisis for many years. As a crisis clinician and trained hostage negotiator, I am accustomed to dealing with high-intensity situations and with complex co-occurring disorders. My lived experience of addiction/recovery adds value to my work. My operative premise is that (by and large) most people are doing the best they can. I look to locate and build an individual's strengths.
I work well with adults who are embarking on a recovery experience from substance dependence, individuals with ADHD, and lawyers at all stages of their careers. I see adults through all phases of adulthood. I am accustomed to working with individuals in crisis, or who are suffering as a result of the consequences of a poor choice in any dimension.

I truly enjoy working with Chip and have so much respect for the way he shows up. He is open minded, intelligent, warm, direct, empowering and solution- orientated. He listens without judgment, challenges me in ways that help me grow and creates a space where I feel seen, supported and encouraged. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a therapist who truly helps you more forward.
