I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. I have supported clients in PA for 25 years. I help people who feel stuck in their lives move past the barriers that have been holding them back so they can move forward with their lives and live a life where they feel peace and accomplishment in the things that are important to them.
In our first session, we will get to know each other and you will be able to share your story, successes, challenges and goals for the future.
I am a kind and compassionate therapist who is authentic and highly instinctive and effective in case conceptualization while being versatile in identifying and adapting therapy to you and your individual needs and preferences. I find it a privilege to be present in the moment with you to be the one with whom you choose to share your darkest memories and most precious dreams with. I believe that the mind and body know how to heal themselves and in honor this belief when working with you.
I began training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in 1997 and have been using CBT and its techniques in therapy ever since. CBT and its techniques will guide you and I in exploring and identifying thoughts and behaviors that are contributing and sustaining stress in your life. It will also help us explore and identify the positive thoughts and behaviors that have helped you get to where you are in your life now. We will work together to optimize those patterns of behaviors and thoughts, while creating strategies to change the patterns that are not productive. One of the things I love about CBT therapy is that it is extremely adaptable and can be used to help people coming into therapy with different challenges and goals. For example, CBT is a state of the art treatment for depression, anxiety, panic attacks. It is also effective in helping people reduce stress related to chronic pain and chronic illness, as well as being effective in helping people reduce the stress of careers, parenting and every day challenges.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an amazing trauma informed therapy that was discovered 37 years ago by a psychologist who was committed to creating a therapy to help heal people heal from trauma. This psychologist was committed to completing research to support EMDR's effectiveness in decreasing symptoms and helping people heal. As a result, there is over 35 years of research supporting the effectiveness of EMDR as a trauma therapy. When we work together in the process of EMDR therapy, I create a highly supportive environment while facilitating a formatted structure of phases to help you utilize healthy coping skills, build a stronger internal and external support system and clear traumatic memories where they are held and stored in your mind and body. We collaborate to identify goals, create a self care plan, and optimize coping skills and resources. We then explore a range of memories that connect different traumas in your life, trusting that you inherently know how to heal and your brain will lead us on that path to healing. We share this journey together and follow the unique path your brain takes us in your healing. The most amazing part of the process of EMDR for me is being present when you are reprocessing a memory and there is a shift in how you view the traumatic memory and for the first time. During this process, you experience the release of this event and memory in your mind, heart and body. It is a moment of true growth and healing that is life changing. It is such an honor and privilege to be part of this amazing and life changing moment of healing!
After 25 years of therapy with thousands of people, I have the training and experience to combine different therapeutic styles and strategies such as short term solution focused therapy, DBT, client centered approaches, etc. when working with you to create a plan to help you best work towards and accomplish your treatment goals. These styles and strategies are based in CBT and combined with other research based styles and strategies to create an eclectic therapeutic approach that meets your individuated preferences and needs.
