Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Pennsylvania and I have been working as a therapist for 18 years now. I work with all ages, but primarily adolescents and older when using a telehealth platform. I work with those with mental health diagnoses, substance use/dependence disorders, as well as dual diagnosis. I help people explore challenges in their lives and learn how to cope in a healthy manner while learning about themselves and embracing and loving who they are, flawed and all.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session together will be focused on getting to know who you are and what brought you into treatment, as well as what you would like to work on changing. I would love for you to share any past experiences you have had with therapy and what you liked and/or didn't like. We will explore symptoms you are experiencing and how much of an impact this causes your day to day life. Above all else, we will be getting to know one another and working on building therapeutic rapport, which is absolutely essential and the foundation for therapy!
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I pride myself on being laid back, non-judgmental, and empathetic. Those I've worked with have described me as "real" and have commented on how my ability to connect helps them feel comfortable opening up and sharing even their most vulnerable thoughts and feelings. Unconditional positive regard is absolutely essential to build the therapeutic alliance! I would say I'm definitely not the sort of person that people envision when thinking about a professional, or a therapist, but in the absolute best way possible. I am a human just like you - a sister, a daughter, a friend. I have a knack for making people feel comfortable, at ease, heard, and understood. I do enjoy cracking a joke and laughing (time appropriate, of course!) and work to find positives in every day life! You can pretty much guarantee that one, or both, of my dogs (Mia & Linnie) will pop in, to stop by and say hi! Come on, now what's better than that?! (Except if there was some sort of technology that you could reach through the screen and pet them, of course!)
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I love working with anyone who has areas of their life that they identify challenges in/with, and who are motivated to make change, even if they're not yet quite sure how to get where they want to be. Those who doubt themselves, often worry about others more than their self, are overwhelmed and sometimes feel hopeless....BUT who are also resilient, brave, and unstoppable. They just need someone to support them, believe in them, and help navigate life's challenges to discover the wonderful person they are and all that they are capable of. I've worked with a wide array of people and presenting concerns, but I would have to say my favorites would include the LGBTQIA+ community and substance use/dependence/addictions. I have extensive experience treating those populations in addition to self-esteem, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and emotion regulation in general, grief & loss, sexual abuse and other traumas, communication challenges, suicidal ideation, and self-injurious behaviors. I've worked with all ages, as young as 5 years old; however, given the telehealth format of this service, please ensure that any children would be mature enough to be able to focus and meaningfully engage given the difference between in person and online services.
Strength-Based
Prefer to focus on positive and strengths rather than negatives. This has been tremendously helpful for many clients in many ways.
Compassion Focused
Helping clients learn to be more kind, understanding, and encouraging of themselves in challenging situations.
Gender-affirming therapy
Share my personal pronouns to allow the client to feel more comfortable sharing their own pronouns. For this to open up exploration of gender/sexual identity and coping with related challenges. Unconditional positive regard consistently present regardless of any aspect of self identity.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Assist clients in being more aware of maladaptive thought patterns, learn how thoughts create feelings, and how to challenge and reframe/refocus thoughts in response.
Psychodynamic
Assisting with self reflection and self examination to increase insight and invoke change.

Some sessions left me with unresolved feelings, and I don’t feel she was very understanding at times when it came to family.
