What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session you can expect that we will get to know each other. I will discuss the psyco-education you can expect to receive. We will discuss your goals, whereby, I will gain an understanding of why you have decided to obtain counsel, what your goals in therapy are and how thgether we will achieve them.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have personally experienced life-changing trauma. I was involved in a missile tube explosion which took years to recover from both physically and mentally. To this day I continue to use the tools I have been given on those days that “no one would or could understand” without being in my shoes. I fully understand that trauma work is a work in progress. That there are triggers are numerous and can occur when least expected. However, it is the tools we use at that moment in time that allow us to resolve the emotional and physical responses and move forward through that trigger. I will not say “I understand what you are experiencing.” But, know that I am intimately familiar with the symptomatology.

My treatment methods

Adlerian

Adlerian therapy is a brief, psychoeducational approach that is both humanistic and goal oriented. It emphasizes the individual's strivings for success, connectedness with others, and contributions to society as being hallmarks of mental health.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT focuses on changing unhelpful or unhealthy thoughts and behaviours. It is a combination of 2 therapies: 'cognitive therapy' and 'behaviour therapy'. The basis of both these techniques is that healthy thoughts lead to healthy feelings and behaviours.

Hypnotherapy

I am an Milton Erickson trained hypnotherapist. Unlike traditional hypnotherapy, Ericksonian hypnotherapy uses indirect suggestion, metaphor and storytelling to alter behaviour, rather than direct suggestion. Problem solviing, anxiety reduction and focusing on the root of problems and issues using indirect suggestion allows for the mind to look at the issue from various tangents for resolution.

Positive Psychology

Positive psychology is a therapeutic approach that focuses on a person's strengths, values, and positive emotions to improve their well-being and functioning.

Reality Therapy

Reality therapy is a client-centered form of counseling that helps people understand how their choices affect their behaviors and outcomes. It's based on the idea that people choose behaviors to meet their needs, and that psychological symptoms are a result of those choices, not mental health conditions. The goal of reality therapy is to help people take responsibility for their behaviors and make more positive choices that help them connect with others.
