Hello. I am a Licenced Professional Therapist based in Connecticut. I am so glad you are here. It takes courage to ask for help when you are struggling. Taking the first steps toward seeking treatment can feel daunting. Finding the right way to address your particular needs is paramount in your journey. My therapeutic style is to collaborate with clients in a way that looks at the entire picture and personalizes a way to help you achieve your goals. We will create a safe comfortable environment where you will be free to explore, address your concerns, become aware of and develop your strengths and resources, create a plan of action, and work towards achieving your goals. I recognize the courage it takes to want to make a change and I am delighted, honored, and privileged to support you on this journey. I am licensed professional counselor and registered yoga teacher working in person centered treatment modalities. I work with adults and adolescents and specialize in trauma-informed therapeutic techniques to address trauma, depression, anxiety, and adjustments to life changes. I utilize Person-Centered Therapy, EMDR, CBT, yoga and mindfulness to address life transitions large or small, anxiety, depression, and past or current traumas.
At your first session, we will get through the paperwork and get onto the assessment, get-to-know-you, phase. I want to hear what is going on with you and support you to see clearly what you want to change. I will always ask my Magic Wand questions. Once therapy is completed, what is different? This will help me support you to build a plan to achieve your goals. Also, I want to be sure you feel comfortable with me. Do you feel you could work with me?
I have life experience. I am a mature woman who has two grown children. I have experienced love and loss. I have done and continue to do the work it takes to grow and develop wisdom from my experiences. In yoga we say Namaste. It means the light, and goodness in me, sees and honors the goodness in you. I have worked with many difficult populations. I can always find the goodness and humanity in people. Being human is beautiful. I embrace it.
I am currently working with adults and young adults only. I work with many clients who have had difficult experiences such as First Responders and Veterans. But, I also see clients who struggle with low self-esteem, obsessive negative thinking, anxiety, and depression, due to a lifetime of poor attachment or difficult relationships. Many people feel lost and need to find their purpose to feel fulfilled. We can do more than survive our lives. We can feel that our life is a gift. We can feel joy and gratitude.
Jody Cohen offers therapy covered by Husky Health and Medicaid in Connecticut.
I am an EMDR Certified therapist. EMDR is a direct and effective way to connect to deep habits and unconscious motivation. Focusing and addressing those motivations is a powerful way to address past traumas both big "T" traumas and little "t" traumas.
CBT is repackaged 5000-year-old yoga and mindfulness to me. I use both modalities to support the client to recognize that you are not your thoughts, you do have control over what you think, how you feel, and how you behave.
The most important part of my practice is the Person-centered focus. I can never know you the way you know you. You have the answers. I am just a vehicle to support you to heal, grow, and reach your goals.
As a 500-hour E-RYT registered yoga teacher, I have many years of yoga and mindfulness experience. Our Western culture often supports the disconnect between our mind, body, and spirit. It is so important to listen to our bodies, understand how and why the brain works the way it does, and understand the wisdom of our spirits. We are spiritual beings with a purpose and a path.
