You’ve taken a big step towards a better life. My goal will be to work with you and guide you towards achieving your best outcome. Let’s see if we’re a good fit. As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, LICSW, I bring to the table a wide range of experience and perspectives on life. This is my second career, and I chose it because I strongly believe that I can help individuals improve their quality of life. Depression, anxiety, relationships, career difficulties, life transitions, burnout… these are some of the issues that cause us to lose our equilibrium. To reestablish equilibrium, we will use cognitive behavior therapy, my principle area of expertise. We will look at behaviors that aren’t working for you and replace them with behaviors that improve your daily life. I believe wholeheartedly in a holistic approach to therapy and foremost is the importance of self-care. You will learn how self-care enhances self-respect, and how important these two factors are for establishing a firm foundation for the new, improved you. And there will be homework assignments each week related to current goals: the harder you work, the greater your progress. You have to be “in it to win it.” My first career was in business, and I utilize some basic business principles in my psychotherapy, most notably organization skills and the allocation of your inner resources. This has worked well in my psychotherapy with chronic illness clients, with clients in the military, with business executives and retirees, new careerists, and parents, just to name a few. Are you ready to work hard and bring your best game? I’m ready to work with you and show you how, together, we can build a better path forward. Visit me at http://linkedin.com/in/dturkat to see my unique dual career path and experience.

Engaging in therapy can be a difficult decision for many people. Whether you are going through a life change, or you feel the need to put the past behind, or maybe simply wish to know yourself better, relate to your loved ones better, improve your academic or professional performance, face your fears, overcome a loss, or just wish to learn more efficient ways to deal with life stressors... these are all great reasons to engage in therapy. For me, genuineness, openness, and a non-judgmental approach are essential ingredients to connect with you, support you, and guide you in your journey. I have 28 years of experience. I am bilingual (Spanish) and I have professional work experience from three different countries (Spain, UK, USA). I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Certified substance abuse counselor (CADC), Certified EMDR clinician, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and I am also trained in Brain spotting. Life can be very challenging; I strive to understand and empathize with your individual circumstances and work hand in hand with you to restore your inner balance. We can never completely control what life throws at us, but we can control and modify how we respond to life events internally and externally.

Hello, I'm Elizabeth. As a therapist over the last 12 years I have worked with a wide variety of people as an advocate and an ally in helping them heal and grow through the therapy process. Beginning to look for a therapist can bring on anxiety, but know that taking this step is already a major sign of growth. I help work through the chaos inside one's head to identify what are the actual causes of anxiety, stress, and depression. In sessions it can be a time to process emotions, but more importantly, to identify the cause of stressors and what is and is not in your control. I help people learn to set boundaries, work on self-care, and coping skills, and be true to their authentic selves. I have always been an advocate for those that don't feel that their voices are heard including: LGBTQIA+ individuals, TBI survivors, Neurodivergent individuals, parents, college students, healthcare workers, teachers and individuals looking to find their self-worth. My approach starts with a person-centered mindset and by working together we will decide which therapeutic techniques will work best for you as an individual.

Have you ever felt misunderstood by family and friends? Find it difficult to trust others including professionals? Have difficulty being seen as a person and not your condition? Do you feel alone? Do you struggle with adapting and accepting your chronic illness or chronic pain? Let's talk! I can help you build tools to gain strength and confidence in managing your personal challenges. I empower adults with chronic illness/ pain or a history of abuse to take back their control and create healthy supports in order to stay on a path towards healing. Our experiences with our body or from how others treat us create unhealthy pathways for self regulation often exhibited as anger or anxiety. The compassion and guidance I provide will rewire those pathways allowing you to be the best version of yourself. In our sessions together, we will work on making small manageable changes through mindfulness, changing behaviors and embracing a positive healthy mindset. It’s often scary to start therapy for the first time or even to go back to therapy but it is the best self care gift you can give to yourself.

I believe in the moving through stressful & traumatic experiences into one's life with new purpose. Telehealth Tips If you're used to seeing your mental health professional in their office, it may take some time to adjust to this new process. Take heart that our patients typically find video conferencing beneficial. Make a list of the main symptoms you want to address in the conversation. Also be sure to indicate when your symptoms started, what tends to exacerbate them, and what, if anything, seems to soothe them. Write down questions. Remember that mental health appointments are a two-way street. This is your chance to ask questions you have about your symptoms, brain scan, diagnosis, and treatment. Having a list of questions ready can help you remember to ask them. Have your medical and psychiatric history handy. Your therapist may ask questions about past medical or psychological issues in addition to inquiring about names and dosages of medications you have taken. Having this information available can save precious minutes during your appointment so you can spend more time talking about how you are going to get healthy. Minimize distractions and choose a quiet, comfortable spot One of the best strategies to ensure a meaningful appointment is to eliminate distractions. Close your door, turn off the notifications on your phone, and make sure someone is watching the kids so you can focus. Being able to hear clearly is another important element of an effective mental Tele-Health Zoom appointment. Try to minimize any background noise, such as the TV, the washing machine, or a barking dog. In addition, it's important that you feel comfortable in your setting during your appointment. Find a spot where you are relaxed and at ease. Troubleshoot technology beforehand. Find out what technology will be used and make sure you know how to use it prior to your appointment. Are you signed up for Zoom, Skype, or another video conferencing app? Do you know how it works? If you have never used the app before, do a practice call with a friend beforehand so you can work out the kinks. Set a reminder to keep appointment. Most of us can benefit from helpful reminders and alerts from our digital calendars. Setting your calendar to send you an alert 5-10 minutes prior to your virtual session can give you the time to gather your lists and questions and to prepare yourself mentally. Reminders can be especially critical if you have a tendency to be forgetful or inattentive. Unblock your phone. If you're doing a phone call, make sure your phone isn't set to block unknown callers and answer your phone at the designated time even if it shows that it's from an unknown caller. DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT Take notes and/or ask for a recap. I specialize in integrative psychotherapy with individuals, families, couples, & teens of diverse backgrounds such as , gender preferences and addiction prevention/recovery support. I treat grief and trauma recovery using a therapeutic Mindful practice & therapeutic yoga adding up to a wholistic counseling approach. Clients describe my work as an empowering and collaborative experience where goals are set by you. Remember that mental health appointments are a two-way street. This is your chance to ask questions you have about your symptoms, brain scan, diagnosis, and treatment. Having a list of questions ready can help you remember to ask them. Have your medical and psychiatric history handy. Your Amen Clinics specialist may ask questions about past medical or psychological issues in addition to inquiring about names and dosages of medications you have taken. Being able to hear clearly is another important element of an effective mental telehealth appointment. Ifyou have never used the app before, do a practice call with a friend beforehand so you can work out the kinks. Set an alert. I hold the philosophy that everyone has the tools within themselves to reach their goals, especially when given the right opportunity and support. Therapy can be an opportunity to find balance by getting in touch with who you are and providing direction for where you want to go. I recognize that opening up to someone can be challenging, which is why I focus on building a trusting therapeutic relationship and providing a safe environment to explore and process life's experiences and emotions.

I listen and try to understand your situation and learn what it's like to be you. I can offer suggestions but I won't tell you what to do. I believe that my clients know what they need to do to help them heal, it might not be clear right away but after I am able to understand your problems we can work together to find solutions. It's a big step to seek counseling and to go into therapy. I respect everyone who wants to improve their mental health and well being. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in children, adolescents, couples, individuals, and family counseling. I studied at Fairfield University where I received my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. My primary therapy methods are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy where I work with clients to discuss presenting problems and issues and collaboratively determine what the ideal solution is by the use of questions and exploration. I believe in creating an environment for all clients that feels welcome, comfortable, and safe. By creating this kind of environment I hope to enhance the process of healing and change for the client. I also believe that the client is the expert in the story of their own lives and so it is important for me to take an active listening role and encourage the client to maximize the skills that already exist within them to minimize the problems that exist in their everyday lives.

Hello! My name is Samantha Vamosy and I am so happy you are interested in working together. I know starting a therapy process whether you have before or this is your first time can be scary and uncomfortable. I hope we can work through this time together making this journey as helpful and special as possible. My passions have always aligned with helping others and listening in a compassionate, non-judgmental, and curious way. I find real change occurs when a person can fully explore their life in a holistic way. Whether it is current mental health symptoms or past traumas holistic healing is possible for everyone. I received my Master's in Mental Health Counseling at Fairfield University and achieved my LPC after completing 3000 hours in an outpatient clinic for substance abuse. I value a person-centered approach that focuses on strength-based and solution-focused techniques. I also incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy to be able to challenge unhealthy patterns that no longer serve you. Together we will identify goals, by exploring what is and is not working and be able to collaboratively come up with solutions and learning tools to better overcome barriers to success. We will work at your pace and readjust goals and steps as we go along. Through these techniques we will work together to identify maladaptive thoughts that contribute to avoidance behaviors and fears that keep us stuck, feeling even more anxious and often depressed. Overcoming life transitions, challenges, and uncertainty can be difficult and no one should have to face these decisions on their own!

Therapy can be a scary prospect and some have had less than ideal experiences with therapy. I hope to be a safe refuge for people who are looking to feel better and find relief. I work with clients from a relational, cognitive and mind-body connection to promote progress and healing. If you are struggling with feeling emotionally run-down, alone, anxious and feeling like you want a better self to emerge from your life, but can’t quite reach that potential, we can work to find that realization. I enjoy working from a variety of methods that meet your needs, personality and style the best, from talk therapy, relational healing, and trauma treatment to providing activities, strategies and mindfulness techniques you can try at home or take with you throughout your day. There is a firm belief I hold that we are all looking to get better in our own ways and working together we can find a path to your goals that may be unique to you.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Connecticut rather than a city like Hartford?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Connecticut from New Haven to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Connecticut.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Trauma and PTSD?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Trauma and PTSD, is filtering therapists in Connecticut that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
