My name is Aaron Krikorian, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a decade of experience providing therapy to adults. I take a nonjudgmental and supportive approach to treatment, creating a space where patients feel safe to explore and grow. I have extensive knowledge and experience in working with trauma (including complex trauma), anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, and attachment-related challenges.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session (and sometimes the first two), we’ll focus on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask about your current concerns, relevant history, relationships, and what you’re hoping for from treatment. This part often feels similar to other therapy intakes and helps us build a shared foundation and sense of direction. Just as important, it’s also a time for you to get a feel for me and decide whether the relationship feels like a good fit. After the initial intake phase, sessions tend to become more open and free-flowing. Rather than following a set agenda each week, we make space for whatever feels most present—thoughts, emotions, memories, reactions, or patterns that emerge in the moment. This allows us to notice recurring themes, emotional shifts, and relational dynamics as they unfold, including how you experience me and the therapy relationship itself. These moments often provide valuable insight into long-standing patterns and ways of relating that show up both inside and outside the therapy room. Throughout the process, my role is to help you reflect on and make meaning of what arises, while maintaining a safe, thoughtful, and collaborative space. Over time, this approach supports deeper self-understanding, emotional flexibility, and lasting change.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a therapist are my compassion, curiosity, and depth of psychological understanding. I bring a genuine warmth and nonjudgmental presence to the work, helping clients feel safe enough to explore parts of themselves that may feel confusing, vulnerable, or hard to put into words. Clients often experience me as deeply engaged and thoughtful, with a strong ability to sit with complexity rather than rushing to simple answers. I’m naturally curious about how the mind works and how emotional and relational patterns develop over time. This allows me to offer insights that help clients make sense of their inner experiences—connecting present struggles to underlying dynamics, meanings, and histories in a way that feels clarifying rather than overwhelming. My analytic approach supports clients in developing a deeper understanding of themselves, which often leads to increased self-compassion, emotional flexibility, and more authentic relationships.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to work with adults who are thoughtful, self-reflective, and curious about understanding themselves more deeply—even if they sometimes feel stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated by repeating patterns. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, shame, relationship difficulties, or a persistent sense that they are “doing everything right” but still not feeling fulfilled. They often want more than coping skills alone and are interested in exploring the emotional and relational roots of their struggles. My ideal clients are motivated to look beneath the surface—to understand how early experiences, attachment patterns, and internal dynamics continue to shape their emotions, relationships, and sense of self. They may be navigating life transitions, relational conflict, or questions about identity, meaning, or self-worth. While insight-oriented, my approach is also practical and grounded, helping clients translate self-understanding into real change in how they relate to themselves and others. I work especially well with clients who value a collaborative, thoughtful therapeutic relationship and are open to slowing down, reflecting, and developing a more compassionate and integrated relationship with themselves.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

I primarily practice from a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic perspective, helping patients explore and address the root causes of their struggles. My goal is to support deep, lasting change by working through underlying issues that shape current patterns and experiences. When appropriate, I also incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic approaches, and mindfulness practices to support the therapeutic and healing process in a holistic, individualized way.
