As a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Texas and Connecticut, as well as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, I have more than ten years' experience in helping clients with effective, fairly rapid relief from the symptoms they have been experiencing--with many telling me that they feel significantly better after only a few sessions. Before going into private practice, I worked in a variety of clinical settings, including community/public mental health, managed care, and a psychiatric hospital. Although I work with a wide range of client concerns, I work especially often with clients identifying as LGBTQ and with couples. I have over ten years' experience in treating depression, anxiety, panic attacks, substance use and addiction, and in helping clients to improve their coping skills to better manage stress when it occurs in their lives. Past clients have often described me as compassionate but also as "blunt" and "no bullsh*t" (their words--not mine), helping them to achieve results often much more quickly than other therapists they have previously had.

Hello, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working in Connecticut for the past 5 years. I work with my clients to help identify the cause of issues they may be experiencing, and help guide them through the process of addressing those issues. The most important aspect of therapy is that it is client-led. Everyone's needs and desires are different, and working out what a person is looking to gain from their therapy is the foundation for change. Once we have established that together, the path ahead can look different for each person. Some benefit from highly structured sessions centered around teaching tangible skills, others benefit from more loosely organized talk therapy. Either way, it is important to establish a treatment plan with goals early on, and work together to reach them.

Biography: Greetings! Thank you for stopping by my profile! Even if “just passing through", you're on a journey, and I'm glad to be even a tiny part of it! You may be confused about where to begin...there are lots of counselors with all different styles. Maybe you see so much on TikTok about therapy, but you aren't sure if you need shadow work, CBT, EMDR or DBT. I have good news! You don't need to know! Its great to have an understanding of modern therapy tools and terms, but it is NOT necessary. You only need open your mind to new things (maybe more than a few times!) and learn to listen to your instincts. That's all! It might take a few tries, but it will be worth it- and so are you! A little about me- I became a licensed professional counselor in 2002. Since then I've worked with many different types of folks in many settings. I particularly enjoy working with young adults through middle age. I specialize in treating ADHD, Anxiety & Addiction (which includes overspending, gambling & overeating!) I also work with non-clinical issues such as Career changes, Perfectionism, Generational Trauma, Estrangement and Grief. Whether you have a specific problem or you're stuck navigating ‘life on life's terms’ , I will help you harness the power of human resilience. My approach with all problems is help ignite your individual, lifelong process of discovery and recovery . Age & experience has taught me that all my clients share something in common - the need for unconditional connection and the desire to explore. Does that sound like you? Then let's begin!

Are you wondering if your drug or alcohol use is becoming a problem? Do you know it is a problem, but cannot seem to control it? Or maybe you engage in a different sort of self-sabotaging behavior, such as binge-eating, compulsive spending or undermining your success at work. Self-sabotaging behaviors, including drug and alcohol misuse, are actions we choose but they feel automatic and inescapable. Often, they serve to maintain status quos, prevent growth, and imprison us in unhappy situations. I understand the pain and hopelessness that comes from repeating the same mistakes. I help people overcome their self-destructive patterns, which can take myriad forms. No matter the details of your particular struggle, my approach is nonjudgmental and flexible. Together, we can pinpoint what is preventing you from living the life you want and work towards replacing unhelpful behaviors with effective, self-affirming ones. I sincerely love the work of psychotherapy, and cherish my relationships with my clients.

Hi I am a LCMHC I have a holistic approach to helping clients work thru their grief and loss . It can be a loss of a love one thru gun violence.or sudden death like a heart attack or some other health issue .Loss of a relationship ,a divorce or a devastating medical diagnosis or a change of health can and does bring a lot of grief . Even being on an eating plan that changes our weight and brings up many feeling and emotions as we struggle to be successful. I have worked with those going thru the aging process which often means they cannot complete tasks and do things that they used to do resulting in a sense of loss But I have seen in my practice clients find a sense of purpose emerge as they experience moment to moment the myriad of feelings , sensations that are often associated with grief . Going thru a loss can be a very difficult time in one’s life and we often have a need to see a professional to help us navigate the rough terrain of grief . I have also seen it be thru grief and loss one finds their purpose. There is hope . . .

I believe that everyone has the tools they need to implement the changes they want. As a therapist, it is my job to help you access these tools through, providing new broader perspectives and understanding how contexts and perspectives may be limiting you. I practice under the theory that relationships work in systemic ways, meaning when one aspect of a relationship is not functioning as it should another aspect will suffer. Through collaborative discussion I will challenge you to broaden your perspective in relationships, allowing you to access your internal tools to implement the necessary changes. Sometimes life is just funny, during our sessions we will laugh, cry and we may even disagree all in an effort to reach our goals and or elevate symptoms. If you are willing to do the work together we can help you create change.

There are lots of ups and downs in life… twists… and turns. Some people choose to navigate difficulties alone. However, you are likely reading this because you are tired of doing it all by yourself. You’re thinking about a little help and support. Reaching for help is a wise thing. It is a sign of health that I value deeply. I am Jim Hughes. I have over 30 years of experience as a Specialty Clinician. I'm a former faculty member of the UMASS STRESS REDUCTION CLINIC that was featured on Bill Moyers' Healing and the Mind. I got my start working with Children at a crisis shelter, Casa De los Ninos, and in the trenches at The Arizona Children’s Home in Tucson Arizona. Moved by the profound transformations I witnessed, I moved east and attended graduate school as I worked at Wellspring, a long-term therapeutic community in Bethlehem Connecticut with mentor Richard Beauvais. Upon graduation, I worked for the renowned UMASS STRESS REDUCTION CLINIC with Jon Kabat-Zinn teaching meditation and stress reduction in the hospital. In all my endeavors, mindfulness-based stress reduction is the key ingredient to help heal through difficult emotional and medical issues, challenging adult relationships, intimacy issues, anxiety, depression, and internet and pornography addiction. In addition, I am particularly interested in helping people with chronic stress and anxiety and medical problems such as panic attacks, stress, anxiety, heart disease, hypertension, A1C issues, diabetes, chronic pain, cancer and other medical issues.

I listen and try to understand your situation and learn what it's like to be you. I can offer suggestions but I won't tell you what to do. I believe that my clients know what they need to do to help them heal, it might not be clear right away but after I am able to understand your problems we can work together to find solutions. It's a big step to seek counseling and to go into therapy. I respect everyone who wants to improve their mental health and well being. It isn't easy to seek help and allow oneself to be vulnerable and share ones' experience. I have listened to thousands of people and I am delighted hear everyone's story to see how I can help.

Hi there, I'm Lauramarie. Do you find getting up and going about your day-to-day routines becoming a challenge? Are you having trouble trying to figure out who you are and how to navigate relationships with others in a healthy way? Does anxiety, stress, or frustration interfere with sleep or getting tasks accomplished? I work with adult clients to build a strong sense of self, create healthy relationships and boundaries, and work on relaxation and coping skills to decrease the impacts of symptoms of anxiety, stress, mild/moderate depression, and adjusting to transitions in life. Together we can create a person-centered set of goals to address what is not working and begin finding peace and healing. I love integrating aspects of mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and communication skills to empower you to become your best self. Whether you're dealing with changes in life, conflicts within different relationships, or cycles of anxiety and depression, I'm here to help. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow, and you will be met with compassion, validation, and evidence-based techniques so you can overcome the difficulties and habits holding you back. Let's work together! Who would not be a good fit for my practice? I've found that individuals who aren't willing to apply what is discussed and learned in session between sessions will struggle to make meaningful progress. Clients that experience complex traumas, are at a higher risk with significant depression or suicidal ideation, or children under 18 would not be a good fit at this time as well.

Hello there, I'm Liz! I work with clients who are wanting to heal from past trauma experiences and get to the root causes of their struggles. Trauma changes the way you view yourself, others, and the world. It often has lasting impacts that can be manifested in your current struggles with anxiety, depression, true fulfillment in relationships, diminished executive functioning, and difficulty with honoring your needs and boundaries. My goal is to help you gain insight, build self-awareness, and foster personal growth. Some areas of focus I enjoy addressing with my clients include boundary building, negative core beliefs, strengthening internal validation, self-care, identifying trauma responses, addressing attachment wounds, aligning to your values, improving daily functioning, and developing healthy coping strategies. I am trained in a variety of therapeutic models and techniques to help my clients including but not limited to Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Polyvagal Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. For those who desire and request it, I can integrate Christian-based counseling into the therapeutic process. I believe education/knowledge of what you are going through sets the foundation to the therapeutic work you will be doing.

As an licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), my therapeutic framework is rooted in using a systemic approach with my clients. What this means is that I believe we understand ourselves within the context of our foundational relationships with others. I work with individuals, couples and/or families from this framework to help them to build healthier relationships within themselves as well as with others.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Connecticut rather than a city like Hartford?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Connecticut from New Haven to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Connecticut.

Will my therapist take EAP:Cigna?

Yes! If you use EAP:Cigna you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have EAP:Cigna you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
