Hi, I’m Gwen, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My approach to therapy is honest, compassionate, and grounded in real life. I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can exhale, show up as yourself, and speak openly about what you’re carrying without feeling judged, rushed, or misunderstood. I work with individuals navigating chronic health conditions, substance use, stress, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, burnout, and the emotional weight that comes with always having to “hold it together.” I also support caregivers and family members managing the emotional strain that can come with loving someone through illness, addiction, mental health challenges, or resistance to care. I understand how overwhelming it can feel when you’re constantly trying to support others while also trying not to lose yourself in the process. Over the years, I’ve worked closely with individuals and families impacted by homelessness, addiction, unstable support systems, medical challenges, and survival mode living. My style is warm, direct, interactive, and down to earth. I’m not the type of therapist who just sits quietly and nods through the session. I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation with someone who is present, engaged, and genuinely invested in your growth. In our work together, we’ll focus on understanding patterns, building healthier coping strategies, improving emotional awareness, strengthening boundaries, and creating meaningful change that fits your real life. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, supported, empowered, and better equipped to navigate whatever season of life you’re in.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session is really about getting to know each other and making sure you feel comfortable. I know starting therapy can feel awkward, overwhelming, or even a little intimidating, especially if you’re used to being the person who handles everything on your own. You do not need to come in with the “right words” or have everything figured out before we start. During our first session, we’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what’s been weighing on you recently, and what you hope to gain from the process. I’ll ask questions about your background, relationships, support system, stressors, and any experiences that may be impacting your emotional or mental well-being. This is also a chance for me to understand you as a whole person, not just the problem that brought you into therapy. I work with many individuals who are used to surviving, pushing through, taking care of others, and carrying more than people realize. Whether you’re dealing with chronic health issues, caregiver stress, anxiety, trauma, burnout, substance use, family challenges, or major life transitions, I want therapy to feel like a space where you don’t have to constantly stay in “survival mode.” We’ll also go over confidentiality, policies, and how the therapy process works so you know what to expect moving forward. I believe transparency matters, and I want you to feel informed and comfortable throughout the process. There’s no pressure to share everything all at once. Trust takes time, and therapy is not about forcing you to open up before you’re ready. The goal of the first session is simply to begin building trust, create a space where you feel heard and supported, and start identifying what healing, growth, and support look like for you. My style is warm, direct, interactive, and down to earth. I’m not the type of therapist who just sits quietly and nods the entire session. I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation with someone who is genuinely present, engaged, and invested in helping you move forward. We’ll work together to identify patterns, strengthen coping strategies, improve emotional awareness, and create realistic goals that fit your actual life. By the end of the session, we’ll have a clearer understanding of your goals and whether we’re a good fit to continue working together. Most importantly, I want you to leave feeling like you don’t have to carry everything by yourself anymore.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a space where people feel comfortable being honest about what they’re going through, even the parts they usually keep to themselves. Many of my clients come into therapy used to being the “strong one,” the caregiver, the fixer, or the person everyone depends on. Over time, constantly carrying that role can become emotionally exhausting, isolating, and overwhelming. My approach is warm, direct, interactive, and grounded in real life. I know how important it is for therapy to feel genuine and not overly clinical or performative. I’m not the type of therapist who just nods through the session or throws around a lot of therapy terms without helping you apply them to your everyday life. I believe people grow best when they feel emotionally safe, understood, challenged with compassion, and able to show up as their full selves without fear of judgment. I also bring a strong understanding of how chronic stress, chronic illness, caregiver strain, trauma, substance use, unstable environments, burnout, and difficult family dynamics can impact emotional well-being. I’ve worked closely with individuals and families navigating survival mode, major life stressors, housing instability, addiction, emotional overwhelm, and systems that often leave people feeling unseen or unsupported. Those experiences have helped shape my ability to meet people where they are while still helping them move forward in meaningful ways. One of the things that stands out most in my work is my ability to balance empathy with honesty. I believe support and accountability can exist in the same space. Therapy is not about being perfect or having all the answers. It’s about learning yourself on a deeper level, recognizing patterns that may no longer be serving you, and building healthier ways to cope, communicate, and move through life.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have significant experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. Through CBT, I support individuals in identifying unhelpful thinking patterns, building healthier coping skills, and developing practical strategies to manage anxiety, depression, stress, and substance use triggers. My approach is structured yet flexible: I tailor CBT tools to each person’s needs, helping them learn to challenge negative beliefs, regulate emotions, and create consistent behavioral change. In both group and individual settings, CBT allows clients to build insight and regain a sense of control in their daily lives.

Motivational Interviewing

I have extensive experience using Motivational Interviewing to support clients who feel ambivalent about change or overwhelmed by where to begin. MI is a collaborative, person‑centered approach that helps individuals identify their own reasons for change and build confidence in their ability to move forward. In my work across IOP, PHP, substance use recovery, and outpatient therapy, I use MI to help clients explore their values, strengthen motivation, and take realistic, meaningful steps toward their goals. My style is supportive, respectful, and non‑judgmental, allowing clients to feel heard while safely examining what’s holding them back.
