I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) with a decade of clinical experience supporting individuals through some of life's most difficult challenges. I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Professional Counseling from Central Connecticut State University, with specialized training in addictions recovery, mental health, and rehabilitation. Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of clients across diverse and often high-stakes settings. Most recently, I spent seven years as a Licensed Professional Counselor at Garner Correctional Institution, providing individual counseling, group therapy, and crisis intervention to justice-involved adults navigating complex mental health needs, trauma, and reentry challenges. Prior to that, I served as an Outpatient Therapist at Farrell Treatment Center, where I helped establish a new Intensive Outpatient Program and delivered trauma-informed, gender-responsive care to individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. My earlier work with the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut and the Hospital for Special Care deepened my understanding of how neurological, behavioral, and emotional health intersect. I work with men, women, teenagers, and young adults of any gender, race, religious background, or sexual orientation who are open to learning new skills and committed to meaningful goals in therapy. Clients often come to me seeking support with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the lasting effects of adverse life experiences. Drawing on evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, I tailor treatment to each client's strengths, values, and goals. I am committed to providing a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where every client feels respected, heard, and empowered to create meaningful, lasting change.

With 35 years of experience as a social worker, I have had the privilege of working with individuals of all ages—from children and teens to couples and families. Over the years, I have honed a deep understanding of the unique challenges people face, whether it's managing depression, anxiety, or navigating difficult life transitions. I believe in the power of a compassionate, collaborative approach to therapy. Adolescence is a pivotal stage in a person's life, filled with unique challenges and opportunities for growth. As a retired special education social worker and school-based health center social worker from the Jefferson Parish School System, I have found working with teenagers to be particularly rewarding. Teenagers possess a refreshing honesty and openness that makes them receptive to guidance and advice. I have enjoyed the privilege of witnessing the willingness of adolescents to listen and actively engage in making positive changes in their lives. This eagerness to learn and grow is truly inspiring. My experience working with teenagers has highlighted the importance of providing support and guidance during this critical stage of development. By fostering a safe and supportive environment, we can empower adolescents to navigate challenges, overcome obstacles, and strive towards a brighter future. Adolescents have the potential to make meaningful changes for the better, and it is a privilege to be a part of their journey towards self-discovery and personal growth. As a good listener, I am committed to working alongside you to create a treatment plan that reflects your unique needs and aspirations. Together, we'll focus on your goals and take meaningful steps towards you becoming the best version of yourself. I am excited about the opportunity to work with you and support your journey to healing and growth.

Hi, I'm Ashley, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Reiki II practitioner. I believe that somewhere underneath the anxiety, the self-doubt, and the patterns that keep repeating, there is a version of you that already knows the way. My job isn't to fix you. It's to create a space steady enough that you can actually hear yourself. Together we get curious about the thoughts that won't quiet down, the emotions that feel bigger than the moment, the behaviors that keep showing up even when you don't want them to, and what all of it is actually trying to tell you. I utilize a holistic approach, bringing tools into our work that help you understand what's happening in your mind and body when you're overwhelmed, so you can actually do something about it instead of just surviving it. But more than any method or modality, I show up as a real person walking alongside you, trusting that you are the expert on your own life.

Hi, I’m Gwen, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My approach to therapy is honest, compassionate, and grounded in real life. I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can exhale, show up as yourself, and speak openly about what you’re carrying without feeling judged, rushed, or misunderstood. I work with individuals navigating chronic health conditions, substance use, stress, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, burnout, and the emotional weight that comes with always having to “hold it together.” I also support caregivers and family members managing the emotional strain that can come with loving someone through illness, addiction, mental health challenges, or resistance to care. I understand how overwhelming it can feel when you’re constantly trying to support others while also trying not to lose yourself in the process. Over the years, I’ve worked closely with individuals and families impacted by homelessness, addiction, unstable support systems, medical challenges, and survival mode living. My style is warm, direct, interactive, and down to earth. I’m not the type of therapist who just sits quietly and nods through the session. I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation with someone who is present, engaged, and genuinely invested in your growth. In our work together, we’ll focus on understanding patterns, building healthier coping strategies, improving emotional awareness, strengthening boundaries, and creating meaningful change that fits your real life. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, supported, empowered, and better equipped to navigate whatever season of life you’re in.

I’m a licensed psychotherapist working with adults who may appear high-functioning on the outside but feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally unsettled beneath the surface. Many of the individuals I work with are navigating relationship challenges, life transitions, self-doubt, or persistent patterns they can’t quite untangle on their own. My style is thoughtful, steady, and insight-oriented. I integrate practical tools for emotional regulation with deeper exploration of relational patterns and attachment dynamics. I believe therapy should feel both grounding and meaningful — a place where you can slow down, understand yourself more clearly, and begin shifting patterns that no longer serve you. Clients often describe me as calm, direct, and attuned. I aim to create a space that feels safe enough for honesty and structured enough for real change. My work focuses not only on reducing symptoms, but on building emotional clarity, stability, and more secure ways of relating — to others and to yourself. I work with a diverse range of clients, ideally those who have a very loud inner critic, want to be more outspoken and advocate for themselves, and those who feel that they aren't cut out for this weird thing called life. I have a particular affinity towards anyone experiencing the above with the added layer of AuDHD. If any of the above speaks to you, please reach out and schedule an intake appointment.

Additionally, I welcome the integration of faith into therapy when desired. I have my LCSW and my Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. I provide both individual and group psychotherapy with a particular interest in treating people struggling with substance use disorders, issues related to anger management, depression, anxiety, trauma, and relational issues. I am certified in CBT for Depression, CBT for Substance Use Disorders, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I have also received additional advanced training for CBT, couples therapy, and substance abuse treatment. I am also an adjunct professor for a master's program teaching psychopathology.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with nearly two decades of experience walking alongside people through some of life's most challenging moments. My career has taken me across multiple systems — child welfare, medical social work, vocational rehabilitation, and community mental health — and what I have carried through all of it is a deep belief that every person has the capacity for growth and healing, regardless of where they are starting from. I bring a warm, direct, and grounded presence to my work. I am not the kind of therapist who sits back and says very little- I am engaged, I ask questions, and I genuinely invest in understanding your world. At the same time, I know that the pace and direction of this work belong to you. My role is to walk alongside you, not ahead of you. I am particularly passionate about working with young adults navigating the complexities of early adulthood, as well as individuals from communities that have traditionally had limited access to culturally responsive mental health care. I understand that taking the step to reach out for support is not always easy, and I don't take lightly the trust it takes to sit across from someone and say 'I need help. Whether you are coming in with a specific goal in mind or you simply know that something needs to change and you are not quite sure where to start-I am here for that conversation

Hi there! I'm Abbey. I specialize in working with women navigating complex PTSD and attachment-related trauma, often showing up as anxiety, low self-esteem, or painful relationship patterns. I work with individuals who are insightful and self-aware, yet still feel stuck in familiar emotional or relational cycles. My approach is warm, collaborative, and depth-oriented. I integrate EMDR, somatic approaches, and parts work to support deeper healing beyond insight alone. While insight is powerful, lasting change comes from working with the emotional and relational patterns shaped by trauma. Over time, this work can help you feel more secure in yourself and steadier in your relationships. If you're ready to move out of anxiety and reactivity and into something that feels more stable and grounded, I'd love to work with you.

First time in therapy? Or ready to make a real change? It can feel uncomfortable opening up to someone new—but you don’t have to have it all figured out to start. I work with teens, young adults, and millennials—especially men and people of color—who are navigating anxiety, life transitions, and past experiences that may still be impacting them. I focus on creating a space that feels real, supportive, and easy to step into, while helping you better understand yourself, your needs, and build the clarity and confidence to move forward.

As a therapist, my approach is grounded, conversational, and free of judgment. Clients often tell me it feels like talking to someone who “gets it,” while still being guided in a way that creates real change. You don’t have to have the perfect words, the perfect mood, or the perfect version of yourself when you show up. Simply come as you are.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Connecticut rather than a city like Hartford?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Connecticut. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Connecticut from New Haven to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Connecticut.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Self Esteem?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Self Esteem, is filtering therapists in Connecticut that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
