Chris Costello
I believe good therapy should be both meaningful and practical. I draw from cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and humanistic approaches, but I don't believe therapy should feel like a one-size-fits-all formula. And yes, I believe there is room for humor in therapy. Logic, compassion, curiosity, and a healthy dose of humor are some of the tools I bring.
First session
When we first meet, I'll take a Client-Centered approach, which will help me to understand who you are, and what you'd like from counseling. As we grow more comfortable together, CBT becomes more noticeable. We will work to identify how thoughts and emotions are intertwined, and we can strategize to create the changes you'd like to see.
Strengths
You can expect to be heard without judgment. Reaching out for therapy isn't easy, and not everything is figured out before you begin. Whether you're struggling with relationships, life transitions, emotional challenges, addiction, grief, or simply feeling stuck, we can start wherever you are. Imagine what could change. Let's take that first step together.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is likely an adult who feels stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what comes next—and wants help understanding themselves and making meaningful changes. A person with an open mind to new ideas, and a willingness to try, are my most important features in helping. The "core issue" is not nearly as relevant as the desire to make a change in life.
Treatment methods
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I believe there is a connection between the mind and the body that often goes undetected or ignored. My work is to help you identify feelings and sensations, what they may mean, and how to use them to your advantage. I utilize homework exercises, along with some experience in the therapy session itself.
