New to Grow
Hello. Welcome. My name is Jill Waite. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of CT and a licensed clinical mental health counselor in the state of NH. My training and education is as a clinical psychologist with advanced training and education in neuropsychology. I have 11-years of experience providing support and guidance to those struggling with a mental illness, relationship challenges, or emotional and mental unwellness.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During your first session, it is helpful for me to learn about you - the reasons why you are reaching out for mental health support, how you have been managing the stressors causing your mental health symptoms, and what you hope to walk away with at the end of your first appointment and therapeutic journey.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
Over my years of practice, I have learned as much about myself as I have helped others learn about themselves. My therapy practice has developed into a truly interpersonal, therapeutic relationship between myself and my clients. When I tap into my learned skill of whole-body presence and slow my breath to help slow my client's racing thoughts and stress response through the use of our mirror neurons, I further strengthen my connection to my inner essence while helping my clients strengthen their connection to their inner self, at a truly authentic level.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I specialize in the healing of traumas, adverse childhood experiences, and intimate partner violence. My secondary area of specialization is in child development. I can help you if you are a person identified as neurodiverse. Do you find it difficult to connect with your coworkers or complete projects on time? Do you feel emotionally or mentally drained when talking to others? I can help you if you are a parent wanting support and guidance on how to help your neurodiverse child or teen. I can help you if you are a parent wanting to learn how to make parenthood less stressful, more enjoyable and fulfilling. I can help you if you are currently in an abusive relationship or have ever been in an abusive relationship and are struggling with memories of this past relationship or struggling to receive love and kindness from another. I can help you if you experienced something traumatic and are having flashbacks of the traumatic event or feeling disconnected from others.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Our subconscious drives many of our thoughts and actions. The Rogerian approach to psychotherapy (talk therapy) is actually less talk and more reflection. With this approach, I act like a mirror to your subconscious. This can feel intimating, but once we have settled into a safe place, I help you through those unsettling feelings to a place where you will be empowered with more knowledge of yourself and confidence to navigate life.
Child Parent Psychotherapy
My transition into the mental health field began with providing a strengths-based approach to parents at risk of losing their children due to abuse and/or neglect. My role as an In-Home Family Preservation Therapist helped shape the foundation I now lean on to guide and nurture parent-child relationships. Parents are children's most important and most influential teacher in their life. I help parents learn how to pause, reflect, and respond with intention that helps to instill confidence, empathy, flexibility and above all a safe, unconditional space for their child.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is the foundation of most mental health graduate programs. It focuses on learning how our thoughts shape our feelings and actions. Our feelings can shape our actions even without any conscious thoughts; however, there are often subconscious "thoughts" driving those feelings and actions. The theory of how our behaviors are shaped by our thoughts and emotions is softly integrated into my practice as we explore all factors holding you back from connecting to your authentic, compassionate, loving spirit.
Existential
As I have explored my own mortality and purpose to life, I have begun to integrate more existential conversations into my practice. I have found this holistic (mind-body-spirit) approach to mental and emotional wellness more effective than mind or mind-body focus only.
Grief Therapy
Grief Therapy focuses on helping you through the initial or sometimes long-lasting, intense feelings of loss. Grief can sometimes be complicated by others emotions and thoughts like anxiety and depression. When the loss of a loved one in unexpected or from a traumatic event, it is often helpful to process your feelings and thoughts around their loss with a mental health clinician trained in trauma responses.
