Hello! I'm Jim, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in both Florida and Connecticut. I'd like to support you in building the life you imagine! Life can be happy, joyous, and fulfilling. However, life can also be challenging at times. Challenges may involve external situations which we're currently facing, they may be internal struggles involving our feelings and thoughts, or both. During these challenging times, it is often beneficial to work with an empathetic, supportive, and knowledgeable therapist who will assist you in taking the steps necessary to deal with such challenges effectively and move forward with your life. I have 14 years of experience as a therapist working with adolescents, adults, and seniors dealing with a variety of issues. I have worked as a therapist in a nonprofit outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment agency, treating clients with depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. As a primary therapist in an inpatient substance abuse treatment facility, I have supported clients as they begin their journeys of sobriety and recovery. I have also assisted patients and family members facing end-of-life issues as a home hospice social worker.

Hello, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working in Connecticut for the past 5 years. I work with my clients to help identify the cause of issues they may be experiencing, and help guide them through the process of addressing those issues. The most important aspect of therapy is that it is client-led. Everyone's needs and desires are different, and working out what a person is looking to gain from their therapy is the foundation for change. Once we have established that together, the path ahead can look different for each person. Some benefit from highly structured sessions centered around teaching tangible skills, others benefit from more loosely organized talk therapy. Either way, it is important to establish a treatment plan with goals early on, and work together to reach them.

I’m glad you’re here. Looking for support is a big first step. Therapy can be a place to slow down, to make sense of what you’re dealing with, and find new ways forward that feel more manageable. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Connecticut and New York. I received my Masters from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and have been in the field for 12 years. I have extensive experience working with college-aged and emerging adults navigating identity, relationships, and life transitions. Additionally, I've worked with adults on the autism spectrum, family members and caregivers of people with developmental disabilities, and others in helping roles. I have lived a long and colorful life. Like everyone else, I've made good and bad choices and learned from each. I have 22+ years experience in the mental health and substance abuse treatment field. I DO NOT JUDGE, AT ALL, PERIOD. I can be both blunt and gentle as appropriate. My role is to offer another perspective, a way to see life more fully and function better, no more, no less. I don't pretend to have all the answers but only one slice of wisdom. I just share what can help someone. Some people are not yet ready to be helped. Yet for those who are feeling lost on life's journey and are willing to listen and learn, I'm here to assist. My life work can be summed up in three words, "offering people hope. " "The wound is where the light enters." - Jeladdin Rumi "A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once." Martin Luther King Jr. "Wouldn't take nothin' for my journey now." - Maya Angelou "The past is gone, and there is left only a blessing." - Kahlil Gibran "Be true to yourself, and you will be false to no one else." - William Shakespeare "How very lucky are we, for just a moment to be, part of life's eternal rhyme." Charlotte's Web, movie "Not all who wander are lost." J.R.R. Tolkien

I have always been fascinated by human behavior, the process of producing it and the impact it has on the lives of those involved. From my earliest days of rural living to my time in LA, I truly experienced a journey of wondering in regard to such. Engaging in my own therapy increased my understanding of many of these things. After realizing the inherent value of such work, I was compelled to help others achieve the same by making it a career. I have worked in group and private practice settings since 2004 and currently also assist in running an intensive outpatient program. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most essential factor of therapy. My clients experience a compassionate, inclusive, and nonjudgmental approach, and feel safe, understood, and cared for in our sessions as they explore their needs and obtain the understanding and skills best suited to them.

I’m a therapist who believes meaningful change comes from a combination of insight, accountability, and consistent action. My work is shaped not only by clinical training, but by a grounded understanding of adversity, resilience, and what it takes to rebuild and move forward. I work with individuals and couples who feel stuck in patterns—whether related to trauma, stress, relationships, or major life transitions—and are ready to create something more stable and intentional. Many of my clients are navigating challenges such as emotional reactivity, impulsive behaviors, or difficulty maintaining consistency in their lives. My approach is direct, practical, and focused on helping you develop the tools needed for real, lasting change. I use evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing to support emotional regulation, stronger decision-making, and long-term growth. I have a particular interest in working with individuals navigating recovery, reentry, and significant life rebuilding, while remaining open to anyone seeking clarity, stability, and a more grounded way of living.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Connecticut rather than a city like Hartford?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Connecticut. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Connecticut from New Haven to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Connecticut.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
