Many people struggle to ask for help, even when they know they could benefit from support. My name is Al Mayer and I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Connecticut. With more than 30 years of experience, I have helped individuals, couples and families navigate life's challenges, overcome obstacles and create meaningful, lasting change. My goal is help you empower yourself to make positive choices, move forward with confidence and achieve the life you want. Together, we can work toward helping you feel more at peace, more confident, and more satisfied with yourself and your circumstances. My experience includes individual psychotherapy and counseling, marriage and family therapy, grief therapy and substance abuse counseling. I am an attentive listenner who believes therapy should be an interactive, collaborative process tailored to your unique needs. I am committed to treating every person with sensitivity, compassion, empathy and respect. Your concerns matter and most importantly, you matter.
During our initial session, we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy. I will ask you questions about yourself, your relationships and your family, as well as, your employment, education, medical history and any use of alcohol or other substances. You are welcome to share only what you feel comfortable sharing. You are also encouraged to ask me questions or discuss any concerns you may have about our meetings. Everythong you share with me is confidential. Our sessions are a safe, supportive and nonjudgementa space. I will listen to you with care and attention, and we will work together throughout the process. Your thoughts, feelings and experiences are important to me.
On a personal note, I have participated in therapy at different times throughout my life and have benefited from the experience. Having been in the role of a client myself helps me better understand what it feels like to seek support and allows me to be more mindful of your experience in therapy.
