I help people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other mental disorders. I help them further develop their mindfulness, assertive communication skills, and capacity for love & respect for themselves, and, consequently, the rest of the world. I don't merely believe in therapy, I know first-hand the beneficial power it can provide. Before seeking mental health services for myself, I not only suffered from low self-esteem, I also experienced severe panic attacks. I am, and forever will be, grateful each and every day that those symptoms now only exist in my past. These are just a few of the reasons why mental health is by far my greatest passion in life.

As a Doctor of Psychology and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist for 45+ years, I am experienced in helping my clients deal with issues such as Loss and Grief Recovery, Substance Abuse, Anger Management, Crisis Counseling, Stress Reduction, Depression and Anxiety. I provide a calm, empathetic, and nurturing environment where you will feel heard, and most importantly, understood. Together we will work on ways to help you understand your feelings and compulsions. My grieving clients experience closure through writing letters to their loved ones who have died. This letter writing is effective for all forms of loss. Reading the letters aloud is very healing as it encourages acceptance, and permits moving on to build a life filled with love and laughter. I've dealt with my own grief, loss and growth by writing a book series, "The Adventures of the Angel Oleo," as well as "The Dog Bible for Humans - Advice from Dogs to Humans of All Ages." I hope you have an opportunity to read one of my books and that I get to help you, and someone you know.

I am not only a therapist but a real person. Everyone struggles with mood and thoughts and sometimes we all need help navigating the intensity of these experiences. I hope to be a guide for you as you walk through whatever challenges are keeping you from moving forward. This process will be challenging and will take work, however if you take away one thing from reading this, it is that you are not alone and there are people out there waiting to offer help.

Hello! I'm Chris Brown, Marriage and Family Therapist. My initial training and experience as a counselor were in college, where I was both a Residence Assistant and Hall Coordinator. While I enjoyed and felt gratified from that work, I graduated to embark on a 25 year career in software development. Throughout that time, I volunteered as both a suicide and crisis counselor, and a domestic violence educator and counselor. I realized that my most fulfilling work was when I was coaching and managing my teams and that, over time, I had increased the time I spent as a counselor and teacher. I finally decided to change my career to the one I had been incrementally working toward, one where the focus and the goal are to connect with, support and help other people. As a therapist, I worked in Fremont, Berkeley and Contra Costa mental health systems as well as for a non-profit organization devoted to treating and helping victims of domestic violence. I've also been a therapist for, and managed therapists in, a large health care provider. I have experience with patients with severe mental illness, with survivors of abuse, and with people who realize that they simply can't continue to live like they've been living. My practice emphasizes patients learning and using cognitive behavioral, brief therapy, mindfulness, acceptance and somatic skills. While I might initially help my patients get through crisis and stabilization, I like to expand treatment to include helping my patients build increased resiliency through using solid coping skills. Along the way, I help my patients envision their preferred self and way of living. which they start to realize using their new skills.

Hello! I’m Sandra V. Chávez, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Registered Psychological Assistant with the California Board of Psychology. I’m passionate about helping individuals grow both personally and emotionally through client-centered, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioral therapies. As a first-generation Latina, I learned ambition, tenacity, and determination from my parents. My educational journey includes dual bachelor’s degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences and Psychology, as well as a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. I’m currently on the path to becoming a licensed psychologist. Before entering the mental health field, I worked as a nurse and briefly attended medical school in Southern California. That experience deepened my interest in understanding the brain, human development, and the impact of environmental factors on behavior. I specialize in supporting clients through mood disorders, life transitions, and self-empowerment challenges. My strengths lie in helping individuals develop emotional intelligence, identify, and understand their emotions. I believe therapy should be tailored to each person’s unique needs, which is why I use an integrative, eclectic approach that draws from evidence-based methods and holistic practices, including mindfulness and positive psychology. I also enjoy working with individuals who incorporate their faith into their mental health journey. For those open to incorporating their faith as a tool for healing, I create a safe, welcoming space where spirituality and therapy work hand in hand. Above all, I value building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. My goal is to offer a non-judgmental environment where your thoughts and emotions are respected and where real progress can be made. Together, we’ll explore strategies, assignments, and tools that help you overcome life’s hurdles and achieve lasting personal growth and fulfillment. Let’s begin this journey together!
