Hello there! I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT). My approach is rooted in curiosity, kindness, and compassion, aiming to create a nurturing environment where you can openly express yourself. My ultimate aim is to equip clients with practical, yet powerful skills and tools that empower them to live life with confidence, peace and trust. I offer a holistic, personalized approach that embraces body, mind, and spirit. I am certified in Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy, working with ketamine (KAP). I offer preparation and integration sessions for psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. I am not a traditional talk therapist. I believe sharing our story is an essential part of the healing journey. We long to be seen, heard, and witnessed in our stories and if we want long-lasting change and transformation, we must be willing, ready, and feel safe to transform our cognitive narratives through feeling in the body.

"I'm so overwhelmed- I don't even know where to begin." "I don't know who to turn to, but I know I can't keep going like this." "The stress in my life is exhausting, and I just need some peace." If any of this feels familiar, you're not alone- and you don't have to figure it out alone either. Welcome, and congratulations on taking this courageous step toward your growth and healing. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and life coach in California with over 20 years of experience helping people move through life's hardest moments with greater clarity, strength, and self-trust. Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than a decade as an international AMI-trained Montessori teacher, completing my training in Bergamo, Italy. Originally from Austria, I've called California home for the past 30 years. My approach is rooted in attachment theory and shaped by an existential-humanistic lens. I'll meet you with practical support for what's happening now, while also helping you explore the deeper patterns that may be holding you back. I also draw from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), grounding techniques, and mindfulness based practices to help you stay centered and resilient. Nature plays a key role in my work. I integrate elements of ecopsychology, sound healing, guided imagery, and animal assisted work to support nervous system regulation and emotional balance. While listed here as virtual only, I offer a hybrid model: a mix of virtual and in-person sessions in both Santa Rosa and Santa Barbara, CA. If therapy doesn't feel like the right fit, I invite you to explore my coaching website www.consideryourselfcredentialed.com for nature-based life coaching services. Hi I am Kao, I firmly believe that as humans we have an innate desire for growth and balance. Unfortunately, often we physically respond to ingrained negative cues and messages that get stuck in our body. Many times these old cues manifest themselves in our body as anxiety, depression, and other trauma responses. It can feel like we are living life just trying to cope with the loudness of these negative messages. What if instead of just gaining tools to “cope” with these trauma responses, we could eliminate them all together? How might your life look? My hope is that in our work together we will be able to address wounds and move towards healing so that you don’t have to “cope” anymore. Instead you can thrive and have a sense of self-awareness that brings constant peace and clarity.

Do you struggle with people-pleasing, anxiety, depression, internalized and/or externalized anger, or managing emotions in general in a healthy manner? Did you experience childhood trauma and feel like you grew up too fast? Were you labeled "different," "the "caretaker," "black sheep," or "troublemaker"? I teach people how to prioritize and honor all parts of themselves, not just the "desirable" ones. We will work through parts people generally dismiss and ignore such as anger, resentment, shame, and disgust, and learn how to embrace them gracefully. I'll teach you the skills to feel more at peace. As your therapist, I will be challenging and direct, yet empathetic and compassionate. I will challenge you through introspective questioning that will lead you to your own answers. I help you take what you've learned and apply it to your own life by giving you things to think about and work on between sessions, along with resources and handouts to remember. I hope you'll witness yourself feeling more empowered, confident, and more at peace with yourself as my other clients have. You will notice your relationships evolve and change, which can be scary! Rest assured, you will be provided with skills to gracefully go through them. Everything you seek is already inside you. All I’m doing is helping you remember.

“Your wound is probably not your fault, but your healing is your responsibility.” Denice Frohman Hello! Bienvenides! You have made the choice to care for your mental health and I am so glad you're here! I believe that tending to your wounds shouldn't happen in isolation and that healing is a responsibility, but not one you should bear alone. I have witnessed that true growth begins when you show up as you are (flaws, strengths, and all) and you allow yourself to be seen, heard, and cared for. A lot of my experience is in trauma and parenting. These two topics can bring up so much! And they require a willingness to be vulnerable and transparent, but never at the expense of your wellbeing. That is why I believe that it is vital to meet you where you are, move at your pace, and to tailor therapeutic interventions to best suit your shifting needs and circumstances. I enjoy working with youth and parents that are cycle breakers, troublemakers, and get a dopamine rush out of challenging the status quo. Can't wait to meet you! A little about me is that I am of Mexican descent (¡Viva Chihuahua y Sonora!) and have lived in Mexico, Arizona, Florida, and Michigan- and now California. I love creating memories with my family, gardening, being a parent, collaging, and reading. You have already taken the biggest step, now let’s do the rest together!

Search therapists by insurance

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
