Welcome! I'm Ian, and I hope that together we can work through any challenges and issues that are going on in your life. Beginning therapy can be exciting and empowering, but it can also be intimidating -- I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows clients to explore obstacles with concerns related to anxiety, depression, and/or self-care. I focus on helping clients develop assertive communication & boundaries with themselves and those around them that can help improve their quality of life. Counseling can foster personal development in whatever way you may be seeking and help build the life you so deeply deserve. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here when you're ready to share.
After some brief introductions, I like to gather a detailed background of you and your current issues so I can best understand what is bringing you to therapy and how I can help. I will likely ask more questions in this session than any other. I also like to provide my clients with the opportunity to ask me any questions about my experience and style as a therapist.
I work hard to cultivate strong interpersonal relationships with my clients as I believe that the most growth occurs in strong, safe interpersonal bonds.
I want to create a safe environment in which clients can understand how their past relationships affect them and how they can learn to regulate their emotional experiences in the present. I typically conceptualize mental health issues through the lenses of trauma and attachment, and I utilize an interpersonal context as well as mindfulness techniques to help clients improve emotional regulation and communication.
