Welcome! My name is Sheri and I’m glad you’re here. Starting therapy can be a big step, filling you with a sense of hope, nervousness, or something in between. Taking this journey to help yourself feel better in your own skin, or to function better in relationships, is a huge act of self-care. Sometimes our old wounds, that have yet to heal, play an unsuspecting role in our lives today. Other times, we might feel stuck or get anxiety at the thought of certain changes – even those we want to make. I really enjoy working with clients to help them better understand themselves, feel better individually and in relationship and move towards the version of themselves they want to be. You being here means that you’re taking steps in this direction. My door is open when you’re ready to begin. Feel free to schedule a 15 minute phone consultation with me to see if we are a good fit.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our initial session together, we’ll first determine whether I am a good fit for you. If you feel that I am, then we will begin to build trust as I learn about the challenges that brought you to therapy. We'll then develop goals for therapy and think through some ways we will measure whether we are on track. I will address any lingering questions you may have about the process or myself and we will plan for our time together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

It's important to me to create a warm environment and genuine connection that will allow you to feel safe in our work together. My clients have shared that in addition to my style putting them at ease, I’ve also helped them feel better, learn new perspectives, and find the courage to make changes that led them to a better version of themselves. My hope is that our work together will allow you to experience the same.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with people who have decided that they are ready (or nearly ready) for a change but need help in figuring out what stops them and how to move past it. I enjoy helping clients gain new perspective and recognize their internal resources to move past their “stuck” points to get to the life they envision.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

Our personal attachment styles – the way in which we seek human connection and experience love, trust, and intimacy - can impact our interpersonal relationships (romantic partners, friends and family) in significant ways. In looking at your early bonding experiences together, we can identify internal beliefs and relationship patterns that may get in the way of the fulfilling and loving connections you seek. We will explore and understand the role that your early caregiver connections have played in your self-worth, your relationships, and the ways in which you communicate with others, to support changes that can lead to more fulfilling and intimate relationships.

Psychodynamic

As we work together in your growth, I will create a safe, accepting space for you to freely share and feel heard. Together we will consider your past experiences that may have impact the way you view yourself and others today. Unexamined, our experiences and beliefs (true or not) can influence relationships with others, how we move through the world and our ability to let in happiness and joy. By reflecting on the meaning you have made from key moments in your past, we can create space for emotions that may need attention and allow for the change you seek in your life today.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) has helped many of my clients see significant improvement in their anxiety and depression. Together, we will use CBT to explore core beliefs that may play a role in how you see yourself, others and the world. We will help you recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other and then we will use that knowledge to change unhelpful thinking patterns, and help you feel empowered to manage the anxieties and stressors life can bring.
