My name is Stacy Richardson. I hold a Ph.D. in Psychology from North Central University as well as a Master's in Human Services with Specialization in Marital, Couples, and Family from Capella University. I am licensed in the states of California, Hawaii, and Virginia. My approach to therapy is solution-focused, client-centered, and eclectic to meet the individual needs of clients. I work with individual adults 18+, and older adults using approaches such as Dialectical Behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral, solution focused, motivational interviewing, structural, and narrative therapy. Please note that I provide individual counseling for adults ages 18+. i do not provide couples counseling.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I try to create a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental, and open environment with clients. This allows clients to ideally feel they can express and share about themselves in a way that is uninhibited. During our first session together, we'll kick off the session with brief introductions, followed by getting into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe while life’s challenges provide us an opportunity to persevere in situations, behaviors may result as a way to meet that need or situation. I believe in working with you, as a partner to help you identify the solutions that will meet your unique and personal needs. I approach providing services by honoring and respecting our uniqueness and differences.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

My clients include first responders, law enforcement, entertainment, tech, military members and families, LGBTQ+, culture, diversity and inclusion, women’s issues, communications, and sexual disorders. I work with anxiety, depression, grief, coping skills, self-esteem, life transition, and adjustment concerns.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

What we think can affect behavior. I work with you to identify the core thoughts you may hold and how they may be a factor as we look at behaviors or thoughts you would like to change.

Attachment-based

Do you ever feel like relationships are harder for you than they should be? Do you struggle with trust, fear of abandonment, or difficulty opening up to others? Attachment therapy can help you understand and heal the deep-rooted patterns that shape the way you connect with others—whether in romantic relationships, friendships, or even with yourself. As a therapist with experience in attachment-based therapy, I specialize in helping individuals uncover how their early relationships have influenced their emotional world. Whether you experience anxiety in relationships, difficulty expressing needs, fear of closeness, or self-sabotaging behaviors, we will work together to break free from old patterns and build healthier, more fulfilling connections.

Motivational Interviewing

Have you ever felt stuck—knowing you want to make a change but struggling to take the first step? Whether it’s breaking unhealthy habits, improving relationships, or making important life decisions, change can feel overwhelming. The good news is, the motivation you need is already within you—you just need the right approach to unlock it. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy method that helps people overcome ambivalence and build the confidence to move forward. As a therapist experienced in MI, I use compassionate, nonjudgmental conversations to help you explore your goals, resolve inner conflicts, and strengthen your motivation for lasting change.
