New to Grow
As a licensed professional counselor with 30 years experience, I have helped adults and couples navigating through relationship challenges, life transitions, self worth issues and substance use and recovery. My approach is collaborative, mindful and nonjudgemental . I know sometimes it is difficult to see the way forward. Together, we can slow things down, gain clarity, explore patterns, and identify practical steps toward creating meaningful and lasting change. My hope is to provide a safe, supportive space where you feel heard and understood.
In the first session, we will focus on understanding your story and current challenges. You can expect a supportive environment where we will explore your goals together and introduce new perspectives, always moving at a pace that is right for you.
Years of experience has helped shape how I work as a therapist. I was introduced to mindful meditation in my late teens and have continued to benefit over the years. Mindfulness and the mind-body connection, or somatic work, are the roots of my approach. The results have allowed me to be more grounded and present in the therapy room. The work we do is directed inward, rather than focusing entirely on the external world, that continually vies for our attention. Much of the work is learning how to listen in a different way in order to hear and observe what your body and mind is communicating to you. Before pursuing counseling psychology I studied literature, where classic stories introduced me to the complexities of the human condition and how art reflects our lived experience. Through all the training and experience, I have learned how to guide the therapeutic work, while allowing the process to naturally unfold.
My clients have sought out therapy at times when they are:: -wanting to connect on a deeper level in relationship, improve communication and listening skills, let go of harmful patterns. -struggling with a particular life transition such as starting a new career or relationship, entering a new life season, facing a crossroad. - wanting to manage their life from a place of Self, building a solid foundation in recovery.
Internal Family Systems is a research-supported approach that helps you better understand your inner world. It can help you notice the different parts of yourself that may have developed in response to difficult or painful experiences, including parts that may feel hurt, stuck, or disconnected. IFS works with the conscious and unconscious mind guiding you inward, to connect with what is happening beneath the surface., by identifying the sources of inner conflict.
Relationships are at the center of our lives, and having healthy, connected relationships can make a meaningful difference in our overall well-being. I work with both couples and individuals to build stronger, more fulfilling relationships. We begin by exploring your unique needs and goals, and then identify patterns that may be getting in the way of connection. This may include looking at communication styles, how you respond to one another, and the ways you can better understand and support each other.
When words are not there to describe what you are experiencing, your body can direct you to to what emotion or feeling is present. The mind-body approach takes into account the wisdom of the body. By listening or observing what is happening in your body, you can understand more clearly your inner world in ways that your thinking mind is not able to do.
