New to Grow
Hi, I’m Dr. Cathy Evangelatos, I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing and growth. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology. I also hold a master’s degree in Theology and offer optional Christian-integrated therapy for clients who wish to explore the intersection of mental health and their spiritual identity. I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside people through life’s most difficult and meaningful challenges. This extensive training allows me to provide compassionate, in-depth care that goes well beyond the basics. With a master’s degree in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and specialized training in the integration of Christian faith and psychology including my clinical research project on integrating theology and psychology into a faith -based practice. This training equips me to offer thoughtful, well-informed support for clients who wish to explore the intersection of mental health and their spiritual identity. This is only provided at your request and only when it aligns with what you’re seeking.
In our first session, clients can expect a warm, supportive space where you'll focus on getting to know them. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, gather some background information, explain confidentiality and how therapy works with you, and begin exploring their goals. The session is collaborative and low-pressure — you don’t need to share everything at once. Most clients leave feeling heard, with a clearer idea of the process and next steps.
I have a doctorate in clinical Psychology which offers far more extensive training and expertise as compared to a standard two years Master's level therapist. Psychologists complete doctoral-level education (typically 5–7+ years post-bachelor’s) with extensive training in psychological science, assessment, diagnosis, and research. MFTs usually hold a master’s degree (2 years) focused on relational and family systems. In addition to my doctoral training and clinical expertise as a psychologist, I bring extensive real-life experience in addition to raising my own family. This combination of years of personal parenting experience and professional clinical practice gives me a uniquely grounded perspective when working with individuals in navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, and parenting concerns. I gained valuable experience during my doctoral training at the Los Angeles Mission –Anne Douglas Center for Women and at Los Angeles Christian Health Centers on Skid Row. Working in these diverse settings strengthened my ability to provide culturally responsive and affirming care across a wide range of backgrounds.
