Life is always changing and sometimes those changes are not always easy to deal with. There is no one way to deal with everything thrown at us. Using a person-centered and integrative model of therapy helps clients feel better about their current situation. I have an extensive background working with worry issues, feeling down, and matters of spirituality. I have trained in and have 10 year experience in expressive art therapy, solution-focused therapy, nature therapy, yoga, mindfulness, nutrition, processing events, positive relationships, and more. I am here to guide you through the hard times, bad times, and good times. In graduate school at Saint Leo University, I obtain a Master's in Social Work (MSW) specializing in Advanced Clinical Practice. Before receiving my MSW, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication with minors in Film and Creative Writing. I have worked in a wide range of positions in the helping professions including community health centers, private practice, child welfare diversion, non-profits, life coaching, overnight summer camps, tutoring, in county school systems, Department of Veteran Affairs, among others. I have been a licensed therapist in the state of Florida for 13 years, and a student of life for 44 years. My approach is holistic and integrative. I blend my years of experience and training, evidence-based techniques and alternative practices, with your years of experience as the expert of you, and together we co-create your healing process. My passion is walking alongside my fellow humans and helping them rediscover their magic; helping them find their way from surviving to thriving. We do this by resolving traumas, changing unhealthy patterns, releasing false belief systems, learning to practice self-compassion and new self-care skills, and becoming the person you want to be instead of who you have been told you should be.

Fulfilling our potential is a lifelong journey of becoming more at peace with ourselves, deepening the intimacy in our relationships, being more authentically human, and feeling more alive each day. Along the way, certain challenges arise to cause us distress or confusion. Such moments can make us feel held back, afraid, or unsure of where to go from here. But these moments can also be the points of growth and healing from which we renew ourselves in ways we did not think possible. It is a great privilege helping men and women in their search to improve their relationship with themselves and others, to lessen the burden of emotional pain, to experience freedom from addictions, or to embark on new life challenges - to find the hope and courage needed to take those important next steps.

Hey, I'm Matt. Life may not offer a lot of certainty, but one thing is for sure: everyone struggles sometimes. You might feel like you struggle MOST of the time. I’d like to counter that notion with the belief that embracing those struggles can be the key to overcoming them. To be clear, embracing our struggles doesn’t mean they simply disappear, but I believe we can learn to acknowledge and manage them in a way that will allow us to feel more empowered and prepared to face them. When we live with anxiety and depression, it makes sense that we would want a permanent fix, but I believe that expectation too often leads to feelings of hopelessness simply because that’s not how anxiety and depression work. What if, instead of waiting for them to magically disappear, we learned to acknowledge those feelings and used our own unique experiences with them to get ourselves through the struggles? If you are struggling, I’d like to offer a safe space for you to talk it out and hopefully come away with a different perspective on your ability to manage your anxiety and/or depression. I might point out a turn here and there, but you’ll do the driving!

Would you like to resolve some issues from your past and learn how to begin to enjoy the present as you also shape your future with intention and excitement? I will be here to guide you on your therapeutic journey and explore the 'menu' of approaches to choose from when we meet. It will be a safe place to talk, laugh and cry. Consider it a "choose your own adventure" approach with also a bit of structure. My therapeutic focus is finding a balance with one’s mind, body and spirit to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, burnout, trauma, physical manifestations and changes in moods which often stem from repressed thoughts and unprocessed emotions. Letting your words "hit the air" is profoundly powerful and the first step to change.... actually, second after deciding to work on yourself. :) My healing modalities are deeply rooted person-centered, talk-therapy approach incorporating traditional therapeutic methods and holistic practices such as breath-work and mindfulness. Reaching out can be intimidating, especially when scrolling through a list of strangers and trying to choose who you think might be a good fit to be open and vulnerable with. It is a big decision. Let's start with a 15 min consultation, if you'd prefer. You decide if we're a match. No pressure to commit. Consider it like trying on a great pair of shoes for your journey. :)

"There can be no transforming of darkness into light ... without emotion." -Jung Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the core of my training. It embraces the belief systems of the past that affect your present. It's a state-of-mind that defines thinking that affects emotional awareness. To become aware is not to change, but to understand and accept. Carrying guilt or shame of the past, triggers the conflict of now. I don't offer advice - I offer choices - a chance to choose your own method of healing that fits you - not something others feel 'should' be. Come. Sit. Talk. Let's wander your path together. Licensed in Ohio, South Carolina, Washington DC, Arizona, Virginia, and Florida

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Florida rather than a city like Tampa?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Florida from Miami to Jacksonville! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Florida.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
