New to Grow
Hi there! I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Florida. I provide an integrative, client-centered approach to therapy that prioritizes trust, collaboration, and emotional safety. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and individualized, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all path to healing. I draw from evidence-based modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), among other integrative interventions. May are actively involved in treatment planning, goal setting, and selecting therapeutic strategies. If one approach does not resonate, we work together to explore alternatives that best support your growth. Throughout the process, I strive to balance compassion and unconditional positive regard with thoughtful challenges that encourage lasting change. Originally from Venezuela, I am bilingual and provide therapy in both English and Spanish. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida International University in 2014 and my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Florida International University in 2018. Over the past eight years, I have worked with diverse populations across multiple levels of care, including residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient settings.
The first session is very laid back! I’ll learn about your life experiences, your values, I’ll answer all your questions about the therapeutic process that you may have; we’ll also discuss your goals for therapy, and (if there’s time) we’ll begin exploring a treatment plan that best fits your needs. Likewise, I’ll share about my therapy style and what to expect from future sessions (homework assignments, scheduling conflicts and cancellations, etc).
I believe that the therapeutic relationship entails an equal partnership, in that we are working together towards a goal. I always take into account your perspective of the therapeutic approach I will use. I will bring suggestions, and will always be respectful of any modifications you’d like to make. I’m a firm believer of having fun, so I love to get creative with therapeutic assignments and interventions (with your consent, of course). I am a very compassionate person, and will sit with you and help you process and carry difficult emotions. However, when the time comes, I will challenge any thoughts and behavioral patterns that tend to keep you stuck.
I work primarily with adolescents and adults experiencing Complex Trauma (C-PTSD), Anxiety, Intrusive Thoughts, Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Eating Disorders, Body Image Issues, Relationship Issues, Life Transitions, Suicidal Ideation, and Self-Harm Behaviors. Whether you are seeking relief from specific symptoms or looking to gain deeper insight into yourself, I tailor treatment to meet your unique needs, while helping you build the skills that will increase your resilience and, ultimately, lead to healing.
ACT comes in handy whenever you feel confused, indecisive, and/or find yourself at a crossroad and don’t know which direction to take. ACT serves to evaluate whether your lifestyle aligns with your values.
CBT is proved to be one of the most effective evidence-based practices in psychotherapy, particularly when it comes to anxiety and depression. CBT serves to develop awareness of automatic, negative thoughts, and it also provides tools to challenge these by evaluating possible alternatives.
I use CPT specifically for complex trauma cases. Cognitive Processing Therapy helps identify the most recurrent negative beliefs about ourselves/others/the world that currently keep us stuck in the past. This treatment modality allows the individual to learn to evaluate a trauma event through logic instead of emotions.
I like to implement ERP as an intervention for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This technique is particularly effective in learning to manage compulsions, and challenges the irrational notions/beliefs/fears that come with OCD. My approach in using ERP is gradual, prioritizing the client’s sense of safety.
I use an integrative approach to provide a customized experience for each client. I will take into account your goals for therapy, your values, and your personality when integrating different approaches. If one technique does not work, we’ll keep exploring until we find the ones that work for you.
