About me

I’m Dr. LaTia Greer, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and trauma specialist with over 25 years of experience in mental health and wellness. At Authentic Heart Behavioral Health & Wellness, I provide a safe, compassionate space for clients to heal, grow, and reclaim their sense of balance. My work is deeply rooted in the belief that you don’t have to face life’s struggles alone—healing becomes possible when you feel seen, heard, and supported. I specialize in helping individuals who are navigating anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as those who feel overwhelmed by the challenge of setting and maintaining healthy boundaries. Many of my clients come to me feeling stuck in cycles of stress, guilt, or self-doubt. Together, we explore what’s underneath those struggles and build practical, evidence-based strategies to create real change. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed practices, mindfulness, and integrative therapy to fit your unique needs. That means we’ll not only focus on symptom relief but also on deeper emotional healing—supporting you in reconnecting with yourself and building resilience for the future. Clients often tell me that therapy with me feels like a balance of gentle guidance and real-world tools they can apply right away. I’ll meet you where you are, whether you’re seeking relief from constant worry, working through past pain, or learning to say “yes” to yourself without guilt. Most importantly, my goal is to help you move from simply surviving to living with greater confidence, clarity, and peace. Healing is a journey, and I’m here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting therapy can feel both exciting and intimidating. You may be here because you’ve reached a point where anxiety, depression, trauma, or difficulty setting boundaries has started to interfere with your ability to feel balanced and fulfilled. Or perhaps you’ve simply decided you’re tired of surviving and want to start thriving. No matter what brings you to this space, I want you to know: you’re not alone, and your healing matters. To help you feel grounded and prepared, here’s a framework of what you can expect in our very first session together. 1. Arriving and Settling In The first session is about creating safety. Whether we’re meeting in person or virtually, I want you to feel comfortable right away. You’ll be welcomed into a warm, judgment-free space where you can exhale and just be yourself. I’ll check in with you about how you’re feeling in the moment—nervous, curious, hopeful, or all of the above. It’s normal to bring mixed emotions to therapy, especially the first time. This is why our session begins gently. We won’t rush into the heavy stuff right away. Instead, we’ll take time to orient you to the process so you know exactly what to expect moving forward. 2. Laying Out the Roadmap Next, I’ll walk you through how therapy works with me. This includes: Confidentiality: what stays in the room, stays in the room, with a few exceptions for your safety. Collaboration: therapy is a partnership—we’ll work together to define goals and strategies. Pacing: you set the speed. Healing is not about rushing, it’s about moving at a pace that feels safe and sustainable. Flexibility: each session may look a little different, depending on what you bring in that day. This roadmap helps you feel informed, empowered, and reassured that there’s a clear structure to our work. 3. Getting to Know You The heart of our first session is learning about you—your story, your struggles, and your hopes for therapy. I’ll invite you to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Common questions might include: What brought you to therapy now? What patterns or challenges keep showing up for you? How do anxiety, depression, trauma, or boundary struggles show up in your daily life? What would feel different in your life if therapy were successful? This isn’t about me interrogating you—it’s a conversation. I listen closely, reflect back what I hear, and ask gentle clarifying questions. Many clients say just telling their story out loud feels like a relief a

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

When people ask me what stands out most about my therapeutic approach, my answer is always this: I see the whole person. You are not just your symptoms, your struggles, or your past experiences. You are a unique individual with strengths, hopes, and a story that deserves to be honored. My greatest strengths lie in combining compassion with evidence-based methods, helping clients feel truly seen while equipping them with the tools to create lasting change. A Balance of Warmth and Practical Tools One of the qualities clients consistently mention is my ability to balance warmth with practicality. Therapy with me isn’t just about talking through feelings—it’s also about walking away with strategies you can use in your everyday life. You’ll always have a space where your emotions are validated, but you’ll also be supported with concrete tools for handling challenges outside of sessions. Trauma-Informed Expertise As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I bring specialized training and years of experience working with trauma. I understand how trauma can show up in unexpected ways—through anxiety, depression, difficulty setting boundaries, or even physical symptoms. My strength lies in helping clients process painful experiences without feeling retraumatized. In our work, safety always comes first. That means we go at your pace, integrating grounding techniques, nervous system regulation, and evidence-based trauma therapies. Clients often tell me they finally feel understood in ways they never have before. Helping Clients Set and Maintain Boundaries Boundaries are a theme in much of my work. Many clients struggle with saying “no” without guilt, overextending themselves, or staying in relationships that drain them. I see boundary-setting not as an act of rejection, but as an act of self-respect. My strength here lies in teaching clients practical boundary-setting language and helping them build the confidence to use it. Together, we explore the roots of why boundaries feel difficult and replace guilt with empowerment. This allows clients to not only set limits but also strengthen their sense of self-worth. Creating a Safe, Culturally Attuned Space As a Black woman in mental health, I bring cultural awareness and lived experience that resonate deeply with clients who often feel overlooked or misunderstood. My therapeutic approach is inclusive and culturally responsive—I meet you where you are, honor your identity, and create a space where all parts of

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are individuals who feel weighed down by the constant pressure to do it all, yet silently struggle with anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma. Many of them are high-achieving, nurturing, or “go-to” people in their families, workplaces, or communities, but inside they feel burned out, disconnected, or unseen. Some find it difficult to set boundaries without guilt, while others carry old wounds that make trusting themselves—or others—a challenge. I work best with clients who are ready to take an honest look at what’s holding them back and want to build healthier ways of coping, relating, and caring for themselves. Whether you’re seeking relief from overwhelming thoughts, healing from painful experiences, or simply learning how to say “yes” to yourself, I provide a safe and supportive space to explore, heal, and grow. Together, we’ll uncover the patterns keeping you stuck, strengthen your resilience, and create a life that feels balanced, authentic, and truly your own.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

Many of us carry wounds from past experiences that still show up in the present—in relationships, work, and even in how we see ourselves. In our sessions, I use trauma-informed approaches that honor your story while helping you feel safe and supported. Together, we’ll work on recognizing triggers, calming the nervous system, and slowly building resilience so you can move from surviving to truly thriving.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Life often feels overwhelming when our minds are racing with “what ifs” and “shoulds.” Mindfulness helps us slow down and be present, giving us tools to manage anxiety, depression, and daily stressors. I’ll guide you through grounding exercises, breathing techniques, and practices that strengthen self-awareness so you can feel more centered and in control.

Integrative

No two people heal the same way. That’s why I take an integrative approach—drawing from different evidence-based therapies to fit your unique needs. Whether we’re tackling relationship stress, boundary-setting, or unprocessed trauma, we’ll work together to create a plan that blends practical strategies with deeper emotional healing.
