I have been in the mental health field since 2007. I was informed when I first started in this field that the average time for people to stay in the field is two years. Doctor Vehec is a counseling psychologist. As a therapist in the Veterans Administration’s Vet Center program for fifteen years, he was one of the first qualified second-level screeners for the James A. Haley VA Hospital Poly-trauma Unit, (one of four in the country) where he gained invaluable experience working with our most severely neurologically traumatized veterans. Dr. Vehec studied neuroscience under the preeminent neuro-psychologist Dr. Eugene Tootle at Barry University. Dr. Vehec was the chairman of the Board for a Charter School specializing in Specific Learning Disabled children in grades K-8. I hold an Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology. I retired from school counseling and became a full-time mental health therapist approximately 8 years ago. I have worked with clients from varied parts of the world, ages 3-70 years old, and with diverse issues/challenges (e.g., LBGTQIA+, anxiety, depression, PTSD, parenting, ADHD, etc.). My 25 years of experience has given me insight into a wide range of solutions, a "problem-to-be-solved" attitude, and a compassionate ear.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 30 years of professional experience providing psychotherapy services. I speak English and Spanish. I provide my clients with a unique approach helping them to identify and achieve specific therapy goals in a confidential, empathetic, and trusting atmosphere I help individuals understand their current circumstances in order to make changes that will have lasting positive effects. I use an Insight approach, where I help, a better understanding of my patients that leads to “individualized solutions”. My treatment approach is short-term, problem-oriented therapy sustained by my psychoanalytic background i. I use a combination of cognitive-behavioral, psycho-educational, and humanistic modalities, as well as evidence-based techniques. I strive to create a balance within my therapeutic approach based on my client’s particular needs and preferences. I have had the honor to serve a diversity of individuals and their families in a variety of settings, such as community mental health, crisis helplines, and outpatient programs (in a hospital setting). I have worked in the clinical field for over 25 years and have been licensed as a clinician for over 15 years. I am dual-licensed as a clinical social worker (LCSW) and as a marriage and family therapist (LMFT). I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Rutgers University and a Master’s Degree from Florida International University in Social Work. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have had extensive training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I moved into a successful private practice over seven years ago.
