What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session with a clinical psychologist typically involves an initial assessment and the establishment of rapport. During this session, I will gather detailed information about your presenting concerns, history, and goals for therapy. It's an opportunity for you to express your feelings, challenges, and expectations. I will explain the therapy process, and confidentiality, and answer any questions you might have. This initial encounter lays the foundation for the therapeutic relationship and sets the stage for subsequent sessions.

Dr. Wolf is a Board Certified Clinical Psychologist. Only about 4% of psychologists are bard certified. Board certification (awarding a certificate in a specialty) assures the public that specialists designated by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) have successfully completed the educational, training, and experience requirements of the specialty, including an examination designed to assess the competencies required to provide quality services in Clinical Psychology.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) treats anxiety effectively by targeting negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to and perpetuate anxiety. Through CBT, individuals learn to identify and challenge their irrational or maladaptive beliefs and replace them with more balanced and realistic thoughts. Additionally, CBT equips individuals with practical skills to cope with anxiety-inducing situations, often through gradual exposure to feared situations and the development of relaxation techniques. Over time, this process helps reduce the intensity and frequency of anxiety symptoms and fosters a sense of control and mastery over one's emotional responses.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) treats anxiety effectively by teaching individuals to accept their inner experiences (like feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations) without judgment and to commit to value-driven actions. Rather than attempting to eliminate or reduce anxiety, ACT focuses on reducing the impact and influence of negative thoughts and feelings. Through mindfulness practices, individuals learn to distance themselves from their anxious thoughts, seeing them as transient events rather than facts. By clarifying personal values, individuals are encouraged to engage in actions that align with those values, even in the presence of anxiety, fostering a more flexible and adaptive response to life's challenges.

Somatic

Emotional Freedom Technique and Heart-Rate Coherence (HRC) refers to a state where the heart's rhythmic patterns become more ordered and harmonious. Engaging in techniques that promote HRC, often through paced breathing and positive emotional focus, can help synchronize the autonomic nervous system. This synchronization results in a calming effect, reduced stress, and enhanced emotional regulation. By consistently practicing HRC techniques, individuals can modulate their physiological responses, leading to decreased feelings of anxiety and promoting a general sense of well-being.
