New to Grow
Hello, my name is Karenia Li. I’m a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in mood disorders, trauma, and marriage counseling. I am hispanic and I aim to provide culturally sensitive interventions taking into consideration clients’ needs and goals. I utilize a cognitive behavioral therapy approach to help individuals develop coping skills and manage their challenges. I have experience working with trauma survivors and LGBTQ+ individuals. I believe in empowering individuals to develop the tools they need to manage challenges and thrive. I'm here to support you on your journey to mental wellness.
The first therapy session, often called "the intake session," is primarily about the therapist getting to know you and your reasons for seeking therapy. This session focused on obtaining information about your background, current challenges, and what brought you to therapy. It is also a time for you to assess if the therapist would be a good fit for you and to ask questions you may have.
I believe my greatest strength as a therapist stems from a combination of personal qualities, specialized training, and the therapeutic relationship I build with my clients. I foster a warm and safe space for clients to express themselves without judgement. I am aware of my own emotions and biases and manage them effectively. This allows me to be more present and responsive to my client's needs.
My ideal client would be someone who is motivated to seek therapy and actively participates in the process of change. They are willing to be vulnerable and share their experiences, even difficult or painful ones with their therapist.
I have completed training and consultation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals manage mental health conditions and emotional challenges by identifying and changing negative thinking patterns and behaviors. It is a structured goal-oriented approach that focuses on current stressors and equip individuals with coping skills.
I have completed training and consultation using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) which is an evidence-based treatment for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that helps individuals identify and challenge negative thoughts and beliefs related to a traumatic experience. CPT typically involves 12 weekly sessions, during which individuals learn to understand how trauma affect their thinking and develop skills to reframe those thoughts.
I have been providing mental health services (evaluation and treatment) for patients suffering from Gender Dysphoria for many years. In the prison settings, these evaluations would provide inmates with reasonable accommodations such as hormonal therapy and access to special gender affirming items to better align the body with gender identity. Therapy addresses the emotional and mental impact of the stress that results from prejudice and discrimination because of gender identity.
