New to Grow
My name is Dr. Joseph, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision. I have been in the field for 21yrs. I love the opportunity to help clients navigate life's challenges. My priority and passion is to do what is best for the client as much as this is possible. My goal is to help clients to live their lives to their full potential. I find this to be very gratifying
The first session is about building rapport, demonstrating unconditional positive regards toward the client. It is about creating a collaborative approach to treatment in order to do what is best for the client.
I am very passionate about what I do. I am very empathic and validating. I listen very carefully, non judgmentally to clients presenting problems to discuss and provide assignments that are consistent with the presenting problems as we explore solutions collaboratively. I prefer a holistic approach to treatment, and I found it very helpful when I can assist clients to pinpoint the predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating factors leading to their presenting problems. Most importantly, working together on protective factors to instill hope and implement changes for a better future.
I work best with client who are willing to change even in small increment because "if nothing changes, then nothing changes." I am committed to assist any client. I feel if the client is motivated enough to show up, even if he or she is not very ready to change. Sometimes it takes time for change or the desire to change to kick in, and I am patient for clients to get to that point-until then, as long as you keep showing up-that is enough of a statement of HOPE for me to work with you. I treat all clients with dignity and respect.
This modality has been very effective in my practice. I assist clients to identify their cognitive distortions and explore alternate views with them, cognitive restructuring
DBT has many resources for clients to work with. It has been very effective helping clients to regulate their emotions
Sometimes clients who are suffering can't really see themselves at eudamonia level of wellness; however, the the appropriate clients - I have found this to be very effective.
Whenever appropriate, I have been successful with employing spiritual literature in conjunction with CBT to assist clients of faith
I am a family therapist; I would often invite individuals to consider marriage and family therapy. There is often resistance, but those who agree to services were quite successful
