Welcome! I'm {Emmanuel Nzuzu}. I want to thank you sincerely for reaching out to me. Congratulations for taking this crucial first step towards bettering your mental health because, let's be honest - starting therapy can be empowering, confusing, or scary, all at the same time. I strive to create a safe, structured, and welcoming environment that allows clients to explore challenges and obstacles with concerns related to alcohol and drug addiction, stress, anxiety, depression, and/or self-care. I focus on helping clients to regain control by taking back their power from alcohol and drugs. I facilitate client transformation by assisting them to learn how to be guided by a vision of the future and not memories of the past. My clients often find it beneficial to develop assertive communication & boundaries with themselves and those around them that can help improve their quality of life. Counseling can foster personal development in whatever way you may be seeking and help build the life you so deeply deserve. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here when you're ready to share.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Together, we will identify your challenges and goals - where you want your life to be a month, six months, a year from now. Then, we'll identify options and strategies you can use to get there. You'll leave the session with a better understanding of what you're facing with an "actions I can take right now" approach. There will always be room for suggestions concerning our work together, including keeping each other accountable.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with people with substance abuse and related mental health issues including trauma for the past 19 years, I have developed a tried and truly revelational playbook for helping you to (a) develop willingness to change, (b) identify the root cause of your mental health struggles, and (c) create a tailored plan that leads to healing and total transformation.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I’ve been using ACT in my practice for the past fifteen years. It’s helped dozens of clients to stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment. ACT will help you to move forward through difficult emotions so you can put your energy and effort into healing instead of dwelling on the negative. We’ll use ACT to help you recognize how your beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. The knowledge so gained will be used to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressful life. ACT will assist you in learning how to regain control and regulate your emotions as well as identify and reframe negative thought patterns. Regaining control is good for you to achieve an emotional balanced state, instead of feeling being controlled by your thoughts and feelings. You get back to being the boss and in charge of your life instead of being dominated by your emotions are on a daily basis. You will learn how to remain The principle of acceptance implies that I (your therapist) must perceive, acknowledge, receive and establish a relationship with you as you are and not as I wish you to be or think you should be. For this reason, your prior knowledge and experience is valuable and will be incorporated into the transformation and healing processes. ACT also encourages your engagement and active participation during therapy sessions which in turn should enhance your ownership of, and commitment to, the healing process.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) typically involves identification of goals and development of a plan to achieve those goals. SFBT actively works towards solutions. It helps you, the patient, to identify what you do well and then encourages you to use your strengths to reach those goals. Some of the major active components of SFBT are (a) creating a cooperative therapeutic alliance between me (your therapist) and you (my client); (b) adopting a solution versus problem orientation; (c) formulation of measurable, achievable, and changeable goals; (d) focusing on the future through future-oriented questions and discussions; (e) scaling the ongoing healing and transformation process. Our SBFT sessions will be firmly rooted in the present while working towards a future in which your current problems have less of an impact on your life. It empowers you, the patient in the following specific ways: helps you to develop willingness to change, assist you to recognize that you are the expert of your life and in outlining your own goals, and guides you to locate and identify your internal resources, assets, and strengths to solve and overcome your problems. When you are not feeling well, it can be very easy to think of yourself as weak, hopeless, helpless, broken, or damaged; and more so when you feel traumatized, anxious, depressed, grief stricken, or perpetually angry. Using SFBT, can assist to learn and discover that you are more resilient and stronger than you think, as well as uncover the patterns that hold you back from having a wonderful life.

Christian Counseling

I like Christian Counseling (CC) because it incorporates Christian views from the Bible, and include traditional beliefs and values. It is designed to provide professional counseling services that integrate mind, body, and spirit, and bring people to relational wholeness with God, self, and others. CC is also useful in helping my patients to process irrational thought patterns related to religious matters, such as feelings of unforgiveness, shame, guilt, or religious doubt. In CC, religious concepts are used to facilitate healthier thinking habits, and behaviors. I encourage my clients to utilize their religious beliefs to transform sad and depressive feelings into a more positive view of the world. We can use CC to enhance understanding your faith. This is in line with the notion of strengthening virtues such as love, peace, joy, hope, meaning, optimism and purpose. My work with past clients shows that Christian Counseling is effective for spiritual enrichment, strengthening one’s relationship with God, and overcoming or managing mental health issues like depression. The Christian religion provides a set of beliefs that we can use in therapy to help someone replace their own harmful thoughts and negative emotions. In this way, therapy focusing on religion can help you to reduce depressive thoughts and behaviors.
