Hi there, I'm Laurie! Do you wish providers would look at you through a whole person lens instead of discussing health and mental health separately? Are you an adult who likes a more personal, connected approach to therapy? Do you have a teen who has had difficulty connecting to other providers? Well look no further! I enjoy using storytelling, videos, and conversation to help clients of all ages improve self-esteem, self-worth and gain a better understanding of sense of self. A licensed clinical social worker and board-certified supervisor with over 25 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults, I spent much of that time working for the world-renowned Kennedy Krieger Institute, a Johns Hopkins affiliate, where I was also in leadership. I have post-graduate certificates in Treating Children & Adolescents, Leadership, Fitness Nutrition, and Integrative Medicine for Mental Health providers. More personally, I love hiking, watching Marvel movies, lifting weights, and crowd surfing at concerts. I believe we should never stop playing like children!

Greetings and salutations. I am, James Howard, your Licensed Clinician that will be assisting you on your journey to Maslow's Self-actualization (Trust me, you'll understand the reference later.) I sit in the Therapeutic counseling chair not by chance, but by hard earned life experiences and a great deal of studying that I look to enrich my clients with to help them find their mental peace and balance to a life that is rancorous and boisterous. I earned my Master’s Graduate Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2020, graduating with honors from Bowie State University in the top 1 percent of the class and currently am doctoral candidate. I read and give a great deal of study to learning and practicing the use of various modalities to be able to assist my clients in finding their path. Within the field of psychology, I have authored papers dealing with relationships and family, as well as trauma. When not seeing Clients, I am a father of two young men who are about to enter into the world. I enjoy singing badly at karaoke and reading fiction novels. In my spare time, I author my own works of fiction and currently have published novels, screenplays, and graphic novels.

If you can read this, you made the first step. Congratulations. Seeking therapy is hard. Most people delay and tell themselves that whatever they are experiencing must be the way life is. Chances are if you have reached the point to begin exploring therapy, counseling can help make your life better. While therapy is often hard, it can be an enjoyable and uplifting experience as well. I believe that you cannot laugh without a combination of insight and relief. You can expect some humor in most sessions. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. In that time I have worked with men, women, teens, and families on a wide variety of issues. Sometimes that work simply involved helping them through a particular incident or life change that overwhelmed them. Other times our work together centered around longstanding issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. In addition to traditional cognitive behavioral therapy, I also offer a fourth-wave therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I have found this technique to be highly effective in helping people with trauma and or anxiety. Our minds and bodies are connected. Anyone who has experienced a tight neck and shoulders or an upset stomach when they were stressed knows this. EFT uses acupressure (done by the client) and cognitive interventions to provide fast and effective relief. With over 20 years of clinical experience, I am ready to help you through the challenges you are facing. In addition to counseling, I also provide vocational testing, coaching, and consulting. I provide both Christian and secular counseling depending on the needs of my clients. For clients with high level confidentiality concerns due to corporate or clearance issues, there are ways we can do EFT without you ever speaking out loud about events.

Greetings, my name is John Luke. I am a licensed clinical social worker and specialize in helping people to effectively manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns using cognitive behavioral techniques. I have worked with a range of populations, nearly all ages, and also have experience with addiction treatment and life-coaching. I work with people to develop insight into the source of their problems, how their core beliefs about the world might be hindering their progress, and focus on their natural strengths to overcome those barriers with practical skills that generate sustainable change. Some of my other specialties include short-term, solution-focused therapy; cognitive behavioral therapy techniques; psychodynamic approaches; and marital counseling. Some of the problems I am particularly keen on solving with my clients include issues with self-image and confidence; dating and relationships; boundary-setting and assertive communication; as well as general anxiety management; and learning to identify and productively resolve emotional unrest. I am also very experienced in cognitive restructuring, which is just a fancy way of saying helping to change the way a person thinks about the world and their place in it. I also enjoy aiding people in goal setting and identification, meaning-making, and navigating family conflicts. If you feel any of this could be helpful or useful to you, please do not hesitate to reach out! (Note: I do work with couples, but only on a cash-pay basis. Also, I only work with ages 18+)

With 26 years of experience in the mental health field, my background spans a wide array of treatment settings and diverse populations. My journey began in wilderness programming for adolescents, witnessing how nature and challenge foster powerful change. I then transitioned to residential programs for at-risk youth—including those with severe behavioral challenges and adolescent sexual offenders—and provided substance use treatment for youth and adults in detention facilities. Since 2016, I have focused heavily on the intersection of mental health and addiction, treating them as deeply interconnected. Today, I specialize in treating all types of addiction, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and certain personality disorders. My passion lies in helping adolescents (ages 14–18) and adults navigate their struggles with honesty, support, and practical solutions. Taking an eclectic approach, I incorporate Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness into my practice. I also integrate creative modalities like sand tray and art therapy, knowing healing doesn’t always happen through words alone. Over my career, I have run numerous therapy groups and worked with a broad range of individuals, including LGBTQ+ and deaf clients. Academically, I earned my bachelor’s in Psychology and Sociology from Frostburg State University (2000) and my Master of Social Work from Salisbury University (2011), obtaining my LGSW in 2011 and my LCSW-C in 2014. At my core, I believe a fulfilling life requires balancing and nurturing the body, mind, and soul. My therapeutic approach is straightforward, genuine, and transparent: I don’t sugarcoat things, and what you see is what you get. I entered this field with a singular, clear purpose—to help people—and that remains my exact intention every day.

Welcome! I'm an LCSW-C practicing virtually throughout Maryland, with almost 40 years of experience in mental health settings. I work with adults across the lifespan, from young adulthood through middle age and into the later chapters of life. I’m particularly interested in the challenges, transitions, and opportunities that come with each stage—and in helping people navigate the changes that are simply part of being human. Depending on where you are in life, that might include changing relationships and family roles, career transitions, caregiving, retirement or choosing to work beyond traditional retirement age, grief and loss, chronic illness or pain, living alone, or questions about identity, purpose, meaning, aging, mortality, and what comes next. I also enjoy working with busy professionals managing demanding careers and frequent work travel, as well as parents trying to support young adult or adult children who are struggling with mental health concerns, ADHD, autism, independence, identity, relationships, or finding their way in adulthood. Many of my clients aren't in crisis—they're simply at an important crossroads. I bring a warm, thoughtful, down-to-earth approach to helping people slow down, sort through what's happening, and decide how they want to move forward. My services are virtual only. With a seasoned background in military life, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with service members and their families—supporting them as they navigate the evolving landscape of military culture and its impact on relationships, identity, and transition. My twenty years of service as an Army chaplain shaped my understanding of resilience, loss, and the power of story in healing. Those experiences continue to inform my work as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Whether you’re seeking support as an individual, couple, or family, I will walk alongside you as you re‑vision your story in ways that feel authentic and empowering. My approach integrates Narrative Therapy, Solution‑Focused Therapy, CBT, and Family Systems perspectives, always centering your voice and values. Together, we’ll explore the beliefs that have shaped your current story, gently deconstruct what no longer serves you, and open space for new, life‑giving possibilities. I believe therapy is a collaborative process—one that honors your lived experience and invites growth through curiosity and compassion. Our work will focus on listening deeply, identifying patterns that keep you stuck, and cultivating the kind of change that aligns with your preferred future. Whether you’re navigating transition, relational strain, or identity shifts, I offer a grounded, empathetic space where your story matters. Life can be pretty rough. Whether you're going through a particularly difficult situation or you've always struggled, change is possible and life can actually be pretty awesome, challenges notwithstanding. I help people figure out how to best address the mental health challenges they're facing and move towards a life of increased meaning, joy, and peace. I help clients identify and build upon the strengths they already have and find new ways of navigating challenges, whether through open discussion or practical exercises and skill-building. Life doesn't always have to feel so hard, and I'd love to help you discover that for yourself.

I'm a psychotherapist with 35-plus years of experience. After completing training in clinical social work and psychology at the University of Maryland (M.S.W., 1988) and Saybrook Institute (Ph.D., 1991), I began practicing as a family, couples and individual therapist. I have hosted on radio/podcasts, have written two books and thousands of self-help articles in my "Life's a Beach" column for nationwide Gannett media. I love working with clients in the here-and-now, and finding solutions to move forward with life. My primary goal is to help you help yourself. I will guide and coach you, not tell you what to do. Diagnostic labels are useful at times, but you are not your labels. I'm your thinking partner: We'll reason and think our way to what makes sense together.

Hi, my name is Efraim Eshaghian. I have been in therapy myself, and I have come to realize what allows one to live the life he would like to live. We work on allowing the client recognize his/her own solutions and path to greatness. Together, we create the amazing experience of being empowered, which is so powerful. Self discovery and self awareness of one's strengths is the key to open a world that one never knew existed. We try to find that hidden key and access this unbelievable world which is filled with one's positive qualities which ultimately allows one to change around his/her life. The experience is unbelievable.

I am a psychotherapist who works with a diverse population of people. My goal is to collaborate with individuals to assist them in achieving their therapy goal(S). My treatment modalities are cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and Ericksonian hypnotherapy approaches. Although I used these modalities, I do not use a one size fits all approach. I am a think-out-of-the-box clinician that will often challenge clients to try approaches that may be out of their comfort zone. Some examples of my experience include working with individual clients on developing skills in coping with mental health conditions/diagnosis, life stress, finding balance, and improving self-esteem. Although I use these approaches, my clients tell me it feels like we are having a conversation as opposed to feeling like they are in a therapy session. I have a specialization in working with Veterans, LGBTQI, men, and people of color populations. However, I work with all people who are seeking mental health services. I am licensed in DC (LICSW), VA (LCSW), MD (LCSW-C), and PA (LCSW). I have BS in Human Ecology, BA in Humanities from The Ohio State University, MSW from San Jose State University and Post Masters fellowship in mental health from Stanford University.

I offer a space for people seeking a deeper and more compassionate understanding of themselves. Many people come to therapy struggling in relationships, navigating complex family dynamics, or feeling unsure of who they are and what direction they want their life to move in. Often, there is a desire for more peace, clarity, authenticity, and a stronger sense of alignment, all of which I believe are possible through deeper self-understanding and meaningful therapeutic work. My approach to therapy is relational, meaning that connection, trust, and feeling truly seen are a central part of the therapeutic process. Therapy can provide an opportunity to better understand the patterns, beliefs, and ways of relating that may be contributing to difficulties in relationships, feeling stuck, disconnected from yourself, or struggling to feel fully at peace in your life. I view therapy as more than just symptom management. It can be a rich, rewarding, and empowering experience that helps you feel more connected to yourself, more grounded in your identity and values, and more confident in the way you move through life and relationships. My goal is to help you develop greater clarity, self-understanding, self-compassion, and the ability to show up more fully and authentically in your life.

Frequently asked questions

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Maryland. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Maryland from Hagerstown to Ocean City! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Maryland.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Men's Issues, is filtering therapists in Maryland that work with patients with similar concerns.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
