Amr A. El-beshir
Amr El-beshir, LCPC, is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland who has been practicing since 2001. He has obtained M.A. in counseling psychology from Towson University. Amr understands and believes that life's journey can be messy and filled with detours, unexpected turns and stops along the way, and that the therapeutic process is a collaborative relationship which leads the clients to deep insight and self-awareness, to find a clearer perception of themselves in a safe space to increase personal strength while working to reduce maladaptive behaviors in pursuit of a more meaningful life experience. Outside of the therapy room, he recharges through movies, poetry, working out, biking, horseback riding, reading, traveling abroad, meditating, playing video games, and socializing with friends.
First session
Our first session is really about getting to know each other-there's no pressure to have it all figured out. I'll ask about what brought you in, a bit of your history, and what your hoping might shift. And just as important, you're getting to feel for me- my style, whether this feels like a safe fit. Therapy is a collaborative partnership, so I want you leaving with a sense of where we might head together, not a diagnosis or a fixed plan. I also want you to know I work from an integrative lens-that might mean weaving in nervous-system awareness, parts work, or somatic tools down the line, but session one is mostly listening and orienting. Life is often messy and full of detours, and that's welcome here- there is no wrong way to show up.
Strengths
23+ years of practice. That's a long runway of pattern recognition across presentations. My approach is integrative- I draw on Polyvagal Theory, EFT, Attachment Theory, and somatic work depending on what your nee, not a one size fits all protocol. Therapy, to me is a partnership. My goal is to help you see yourself more clearly, build real strength within safe space, and move past patterns that no longer serve you- towards a life that feels genuinely yours.
Ideal clients
Someone doing real trauma or identity work-not crisis only but ready for depth. Complex trauma, attachment wounds, disorganized relational patterns, or a sense of living from a "false self" that no longer fits. Adults navigating major identity transition (career, faith, relationships, aging). Muslims or spiritually curious clients who want their faith integrated rather than bracketed out- client's open to spiritual/transpersonal framing even if not religious themselves. Performers, storytellers, or anyone who resonates with narrative based work, midlife management or later grappling with life.
Treatment methods
Attachment-based
Attachment-based therapy treats relational patterns- how a person connects, trust, and regulates in relationships- as rooted in early bonds with primary caregivers, and works to repair or update those patterns through the therapeutic relationship itself.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
You learn to observe to observe your thoughts and bodily sensation as temporary, passing events rather than absolute fact. Practices include: (guided meditations, breathing exercises, and body scans).
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT-views relationship issues not as a lack of communication skills, but as struggle over emotional safety and attachment needs-identify negative relationship patterns and underlying hidden emotions. You learn to access underlying vulnerabilities and express them to your partner in a way to foster empathy and connection. You integrate these new, positive ways of interacting into your daily life to soldify a secure emotional bond.
Polyvagal Therapy
Polyvagal-informed therapy is an approach that treats trauma, anxiety, and stress by focusing on the autonomic nervous system. It teaches the clients to understand and regulate three physiological states: Safety, (ventral vagal), fight-or-flight (sympathetic), and freeze or shutdown (dorsal vagal), using body first techniques and relational safety to restore calm.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic therapy is a form of talk therapy that explores how the unconscious thoughts, repressed emotions, and past childhood experiences shape your current behavior and relationships.
