About me

Hello, and welcome. I'm Dr. Natasha Charles-McQueen, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland. I work with adults, including first responders, healthcare professionals, men, and older adults, who are navigating medical trauma, traumatic loss, grief, chronic stress, major life transitions, and relationship challenges. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck, disconnected, or simply finding it difficult to move forward, therapy can provide a supportive space to better understand your experiences, develop practical coping strategies, and reconnect with your strengths. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), and an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP). My education in psychology, combined with my clinical experience, allows me to provide evidence-based care tailored to each client's unique needs. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based care that recognizes the connection among the mind, body, emotions, and behaviors. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel heard, respected, and supported while also being encouraged to grow in ways that align with your values and goals. Outside of my practice, I enjoy designing guided journals, creating art, and writing poetry. I believe creativity encourages reflection, healing, and personal growth, and those values influence the way I approach therapy and my work with clients.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, and my goal is to help you feel comfortable from the start. During our first session, we'll talk about what brings you to therapy, the challenges you're facing, and what you hope to accomplish. I'll ask questions to better understand your experiences, strengths, and goals so we can determine the best approach for your care. Our first session is also an opportunity for us to determine whether we're a good fit. I encourage you to ask questions about my approach and share what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, we'll develop a plan that supports your goals and moves at a pace that feels right for you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Clients often describe me as thoughtful, open-minded, and fair. I strive to understand your experiences without making assumptions or rushing to conclusions. My approach is collaborative, balancing compassion with honest feedback that supports growth and lasting change. I believe meaningful change happens when we address the connection between thoughts, emotions, physical experiences, and behaviors rather than focusing on only one part of the healing process. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in a correctional setting, where I interacted with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. That experience reinforced the importance of treating every person with dignity, respect, and compassion, regardless of their circumstances. It strengthened my ability to remain calm, listen without judgment, and build trust with people facing difficult situations. I have a particular interest in supporting first responders, healthcare professionals, caregivers, men, and others who dedicate themselves to caring for or serving others. I understand the unique demands these roles can place on emotional well-being and the importance of having a confidential, supportive space to process those experiences. Whether you need someone to provide a supportive space, offer guidance, or gently challenge unhelpful patterns, we'll work together to help you move toward the goals that matter most to you.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I primarily work with adults who are seeking greater self-understanding, emotional well-being, and lasting change. Many of my clients are navigating chronic stress, grief and loss, medical trauma, caregiving responsibilities, relationship challenges, career transitions, retirement, or other significant life changes. I have a particular interest in supporting first responders, healthcare professionals, caregivers, men, and others who dedicate themselves to caring for or serving others. They value a thoughtful, collaborative approach and are looking for practical strategies, deeper insight, and meaningful, lasting change.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-Informed Care recognizes that past experiences can influence how you think, feel, relate to others, and respond to stress. I provide a safe, respectful, and collaborative environment where we move at a pace that feels comfortable while building practical coping skills, resilience, and lasting healing.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness helps you become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations so you can respond to challenges with greater clarity instead of reacting automatically. I incorporate practical mindfulness techniques that fit your comfort level and goals.

Somatic

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the mind and body. I help you notice how stress and emotions are experienced physically, such as through tension, breathing, or other body sensations. By increasing this awareness, we can develop strategies to regulate your nervous system and support emotional healing.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I incorporate principles of Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you understand and work with the different parts of yourself. This approach encourages self-awareness, self-compassion, and healing by exploring how different thoughts, emotions, and protective patterns have developed over time.
