LMHC, 20 years of experience
New to Grow
Hi and welcome to the first step in your healing journey. My name is Karen Mclean, LMHC, Addiction/Trauma Therapist. I come to you with over 20 years of clinical experience, over 32 years of personal addiction recovery, and having healed my own trauma wounds, specifically with EMDR therapy. It has been my life mission to walk with, cheer for, and empower those who are hopeless, lost, and wounded. I provide a nonjudgmental, genuine, and safe healing space. Two of my favorite mottos related to healing are, "If you don't heal what hurt you, you will bleed on those who didn't cut you" and “They won’t care what we know until they know that we care.” Warmly, Karen
The first meeting is a time when we will get to know a bit about each other, complete an assessment, identify goals, needs, strengths and resources. This will be time to discuss frequency and duration of treatment. You have total control in your therapeutic process.
I have traveled through difficult and sometimes very painful situations. I couldn't color within the lines; therefore, I decided to create my own lines! I am genuine, authentic, and provide a safe place to recover. Clients have said that I am easy to talk to and feel validated and heard.
I enjoy working with adults who are curious and who like to explore. I don't have an ideal "mindset," motivation, or any other particular "check box." Therapy works best when one can be exactly who and where they are in the moment. I accept and appreciate rage, hurt, distress, anxiety, grief, happiness, and confusion. I have thick skin. If there is a guard or apprehension, well, we can work with that too!
I am an substance abuse addiction professional of 20 years and a certified Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing, as of 2020. I use bilateral eye movements, EMI - Eye Movement Integration with Neurolinguistic Programming.
