I am a clinical psychologist who has been working in the mental health field since 1990. I have worked in a variety of professional settings ranging from institutional inpatients to private practice clients. I also have taught psychology and human development courses as an adjunct professor at a local college for over twenty years. I am married, no children, but lots of dogs and cats over the years!
In our first session, especially if you are new to therapy, I will answer all questions you might have regarding this process. We also will begin to define what you would like to achieve through this therapeutic process and start to develop approaches to bring this about.
I work in a collaborative manner with clients to facilitate insight into their problem conditions and to develop effective action steps to move beyond these conditions into a more fulfilling, successful, authentic life. My therapeutic approach is informed by several therapeutic traditions. This includes, psychodynamic, family-systems, humanistic-experiential and person-centered. .
My ideal client would be someone who would want to explore and address their deeper developmental issues that are impacting their current life. So many of the coping mechanisms we learn in our childhood and then carry into our adult life do not function effectively leading to relational problems. Most of these dysfunctional patterns are unconscious requiring collaborative exploration with a therapist to make them conscious and to address them.
My therapeutic approach is informed by several therapeutic approaches. This includes, psychodynamic, family-systems, person-centered, and cognitive-behavioral.
