My name is Renee Thompson and I'm here to help you be the best YOU you can be! I have experience working with children, teens, college students, adults and the elderly. I'm also a grief expert and can help you navigate the emotional, physical and life changes that come with loss. My treatment approach is a collaborative effort using several evidence-based treatment approaches, specific to your needs. I provide an honest, safe, empathetic and non judgmental environment. I can help you recognize patterns of thinking or behavior and offer potential solutions to help you live life to its fullest potential. I help clients tap into their internal strengths and capabilities to build confidence and overcome challenges. You are recognized as the expert of your own life, and together we formulate the best course of treatment to achieve your goals. I help clients build happiness, improve self-confidence, find meaning and purpose in their life, identify core values, look for pattens of thinking and learn new skills to manage challenges. You will likely reach most or all of your goals within a short period of time in therapy with me.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming and compassionate environment where you can feel comfortable sharing your concerns at your own pace. My goal is to get to know you, understand the challenges that brought you to therapy, and identify the strengths and resources you already possess. Together, we'll begin developing meaningful goals and a personalized plan to help you move forward with confidence and support.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring a wide range of life and clinical experiences to my work, including my own personal challenges, which have deepened my empathy and understanding of the human experience. Over the years I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds and across the lifespan, and I strive to create a space where nothing feels surprising or too difficult to talk about. My style is collaborative yet direct. I can gently challenge clients' thought patterns and behaviors that are no longer serving them and support clients in moving forward to reaching their highest potential. I also value the work that happens in between sessions and often incorporate practical homework assignments, including practicing newly learned skills, videos, articles or worksheets. I believe meaningful change comes from both our time together and the ways that you apply new insights into your daily life.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I welcome clients of all ages, from teens to older adults, who are open to self exploration and motivated to make positive changes in their life. Whether clients are facing anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, or life transitions, or just simply feel stuck, I view therapy as a team effort. I want to work collaboratively to create a place where clients can grow, gain insight, perspective and learn tools and skills to move forward to living their best life.

My treatment methods

Strength-Based

A strength-based approach helps clients shift the focus from the problems, to what is already working well. We use existing capabilities to build confidence, resilience and to overcome challenges. I believe that YOU are the expert of your own life and together, we can tap into your strengths, resources and support systems so that you can move forward and live a quality life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT techniques to help clients recognize the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Often times we get "stuck" in a mood or a thought and over-think. By learning to identify when this is happening, clients can reframe negative or uncomfortable thoughts into kinder, more compassionate thoughts. This skill can lead to lasting improvements in mood, confidence and overall well-being.

Compassion Focused

Compassion focused techniques help you to develop. A more supportive relationship with yourself. Especially if you struggle with self criticism, shame, anxiety or perfectionism.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use Dialectical Behavior strategies to help you learn tools to regulate emotions, cope with stress more effectively and respond to challenges with a more balanced approach. These tools give you a greater sense of self-confidence and self-control.

Grief Therapy

Grief can affect every aspect of life and often brings a wide range of emotions. Grief can be the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a health diagnosis, or another significant life transition. I offer a safe place to process these emotions, find meaning and purpose , and move towards healing and adjustment at a pace that feels right to you.
