Working with me involves a collaborative and client-centered approach. During our intake process, I prioritize understanding your unique needs and goals to tailor a personalized treatment plan. Progress is measured through open dialogue and regular feedback, ensuring we stay aligned with your evolving objectives. I often incorporate homework assignments between sessions to reinforce learning and promote ongoing growth outside of therapy. I have a particular affinity for working with clients navigating life transitions, those managing anxiety or depression, and those seeking to enhance their overall well-being. My therapeutic style blends cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices, fostering a supportive environment for exploring and addressing challenges. Above all, I strive to create a safe and empathetic space where clients can explore, heal, and ultimately thrive.
As a provider, I believe my greatest strengths lie in my empathy, relatability, sense of humor, and nurturing approach. These qualities allow me to connect deeply with clients, creating a comfortable and trusting environment where they feel understood and supported. My empathy helps me grasp their emotional experiences, while being relatable and occasionally injecting humor can lighten the mood and build rapport. I strive to nurture clients through their challenges, empowering them to explore their strengths and navigate their healing journey effectively.
I specialize in working with adults facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and substance abuse. My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. I strive to create a compassionate and supportive space where clients can explore their concerns openly. My goal is to help individuals develop effective coping strategies, manage symptoms, and foster personal growth in their journey towards improved mental well-being.
I work collaboratively with clients to set clear goals and utilize techniques such as cognitive restructuring and behavioral experiments to challenge negative thoughts and behaviors. By changing how we perceive a situation, we can often change how we respond to it. My approach focuses on building practical skills and developing personalized strategies to enhance emotional regulation and empower clients to take an active role in managing their mental health.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach used primarily to treat trauma and PTSD. During EMDR sessions, I guide my client through recalling distressing memories while simultaneously stimulating bilateral brain activity, typically through side-to-side eye movements, taps, or sounds. This bilateral stimulation helps process traumatic memories by facilitating the brain's natural healing mechanisms. The therapist assists the client in accessing and reprocessing these memories in a safe and controlled manner, aiming to reduce the emotional intensity and negative beliefs associated with them. Over time, EMDR can help clients achieve symptom relief, improve their ability to cope with triggers, and promote psychological healing and integration.
In my practice, I incorporate a trauma-informed approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for every client. By understanding how trauma can affect thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, I strive to create a supportive environment that fosters trust, empowerment, and collaboration. I prioritize sensitivity, avoid re-traumatization, and respect each individual’s pace and needs. This approach allows clients to feel seen, heard, and in control as they work toward healing and resilience.

I’ve seen many therapists over the years, and Emma Newman is by far the best I’ve ever encountered. She is brilliant, direct, empowering, empathetic, and open-minded. She genuinely cares about her patients and often goes above and beyond—researching topics between sessions to offer thoughtful, informed solutions to whatever challenges we’re addressing. It is a rare and profound privilege to work with a healthcare provider who has so clearly answered a true calling to help others.
