Luissel Cabreja
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida dedicated to helping individuals improve their emotional well-being and build healthier, more fulfilling lives. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to each client's unique needs.
I support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, trauma, and life transitions.
I support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, trauma, and life transitions. My goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes.
First session
In your first session, you can expect a welcoming, safe, and nonjudgmental space where you can share your concerns at your own pace. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, explore the challenges you are experiencing, and identify the changes you hope to make. I will take time to understand your background, strengths, and personal goals while answering any questions you may have about the therapy process. Together, we will begin identifying practical strategies to help you manage difficult emotions, develop healthier coping skills, and improve your overall well-being. You do not need to have everything figured out before starting. My goal is for you to leave our first session feeling heard, supported, and with a clearer understanding of how we can work together toward meaningful progress
Strengths
I bring compassion, empathy, active listening, and a client-centered approach to every session. My experience in hospital and psychiatric ward settings has strengthened my understanding of mental health challenges, crisis-related concerns, and the importance of providing supportive, respectful care to individuals experiencing emotional distress. My experience at Broward Addiction Recovery Center has also deepened my understanding of substance use, recovery, behavioral change, and the importance of meeting clients where they are in their healing journey. My approach stands out because I recognize that every individual has a unique story, set of challenges, and personal strengths. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and understood rather than criticized. I incorporate evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral strategies and emotional regulation techniques, to help clients develop practical skills and achieve meaningful progress. I believe effective therapy involves building a trusting therapeutic relationship, identifying individual strengths, and working collaboratively toward lasting change that supports each client's overall well-being.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals who are open to self-exploration, personal growth, and developing healthier ways to manage life's challenges. I enjoy working with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, stress, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, and major life transitions. I welcome clients who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about their next steps but are willing to explore their experiences and work toward positive change. My goal is to help clients build self-awareness, strengthen coping skills, improve relationships, and develop greater confidence and resilience. I understand that progress looks different for everyone, and I strive to meet each client with compassion, respect, and an individualized approach that supports their unique needs and goals.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns, explore how these patterns affect daily life, and develop healthier, more balanced ways of responding to challenging situations. I help clients practice cognitive restructuring, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and practical coping strategies they can apply outside of sessions. Depending on each client's needs, we may also use behavioral activation, gradual exposure, and between-session exercises to build confidence and reduce avoidance. My goal is to empower clients to recognize their own patterns, develop effective tools for managing symptoms, and make meaningful, lasting changes that improve their relationships, functioning, and overall quality of life.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop practical skills for managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, improving relationships, and becoming more mindful of their thoughts and feelings. Together, we work on recognizing emotional triggers, responding rather than reacting, and learning healthier ways to navigate difficult situations. Depending on each client's needs, I incorporate DBT skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. These strategies can help clients manage overwhelming emotions, communicate their needs more effectively, establish healthy boundaries, and cope with stress without relying on unhelpful behaviors. My approach emphasizes balancing acceptance and change by helping clients recognize that their feelings are valid while empowering them to make choices that support their well-being and personal growth
Psychodynamic
I incorporate psychodynamic principles to help clients explore how past experiences, early relationships, and underlying emotional patterns may influence their current thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. Together, we examine recurring challenges, emotional triggers, and relationship dynamics to develop a deeper understanding of how previous experiences may shape present-day responses. I provide a supportive environment where clients can explore difficult feelings, increase self-awareness, and recognize patterns that may no longer serve them. By developing insight into these connections, clients can begin making more intentional choices, building healthier relationships, and responding to challenges in more constructive ways. My goal is to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves while supporting meaningful, lasting emotional growth and personal change.
Trauma-Informed Care
I use a trauma-informed approach by prioritizing emotional safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment throughout the therapeutic process. I recognize that past traumatic experiences can influence how individuals respond to stress, build relationships, regulate emotions, and view themselves and the world around them. I work at each client's pace, respecting their boundaries and allowing them to decide what they feel comfortable sharing. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I seek to understand the impact of a client's experiences while recognizing their strengths, resilience, and existing coping skills. When appropriate, I incorporate grounding techniques, emotional regulation strategies, and evidence-based interventions to help clients feel more secure and develop healthier responses to triggers. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their healing journey without feeling pressured to revisit painful experiences before they are ready.
Narrative
I incorporate narrative therapy techniques to help clients explore the stories they tell themselves about their lives, identities, relationships, and experiences. Together, we identify limiting beliefs and recurring narratives that may contribute to emotional distress or prevent them from recognizing their strengths and potential. I help clients separate themselves from their problems, recognizing that challenges and past experiences do not define who they are. Through reflection and collaborative exploration, clients can identify moments of resilience, recognize personal strengths, and develop more empowering perspectives about themselves and their futures. My goal is to help clients reframe unhelpful narratives, strengthen their sense of identity, and recognize that they have the ability to create new meanings and possibilities for their lives.
