New to Grow
My name is Carlos Izquierdo, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I work with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and other difficulties that may leave them feeling stuck or overwhelmed. I believe that many psychological struggles are not signs of something being “wrong” with us, but rather the result of patterns and strategies that may have once served a purpose but are no longer helping us move forward. Therapy can provide an opportunity to understand these patterns, develop new perspectives, and discover more effective ways of responding to life’s challenges. My goal is to create a supportive and collaborative space where you can explore what is holding you back, recognize your strengths, and develop more flexible and creative ways of navigating difficult situations. I see challenges not simply as problems to eliminate, but as opportunities for greater self-understanding, personal growth, and meaningful change.
Our first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. I’ll listen carefully and without judgment to understand the challenges you’re facing, the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and what matters most to you. I’ll also want to learn about your strengths and values, because these can be powerful resources for change. Most importantly, I want you to leave our first session with a sense of hope—that no matter how stuck or frustrated you may feel right now, meaningful change is possible.
I believe one of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to truly listen and understand. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can feel comfortable being open and honest about what you’re experiencing. I bring curiosity, empathy, and a genuine belief in your ability to grow and change. Rather than simply focusing on what is wrong, I work with you to understand what is keeping you stuck and discover new, more flexible ways of moving forward.
My ideal client is someone struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck in some area of life. You don’t have to be completely convinced that therapy will work, and you don’t have to feel perfectly ready for change. It’s normal to have doubts or uncertainty about the process. All I ask is that you bring some openness and a willingness to explore new ways of understanding and addressing your challenges. We can take it from there, together.

Most people come to therapy wanting to get rid of anxiety, depression, anger, or other difficult emotions. But emotions aren’t problems to be solved—they’re a natural part of being human. Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I help you change the way you relate to difficult thoughts and feelings. Instead of constantly fighting or trying to control them, we work on understanding them, making room for them, and learning new ways to respond. The goal isn’t to eliminate emotional pain, but to help you stop fighting with it so you can focus your energy on what matters most and live a more meaningful life.
