Hello, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) based in Connecticut. I have worked in this field for over 25 years and still feel this has always been a privileged position that others allow me to enter. I am a strong believer that all clients have the answers within them and I am a facilitator and guide to help gain access to these answers for their growth and healing. I am experienced in many modalities and tend to get to know a person a bit so we can utilize the best therapeutic approach for them. My goals often with clients are to help them go from surviving to thriving in life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, after basic introductions and some brief discussion around safety and confidentiality I like to ask the person/people if they have ever had any counseling in the past and for a short answer about the reason they chose to reach out now and start therapy. I tend to work backwards from there filling in the details as we go so a picture of this person or people and their situation starts to become comprehensive and clear. Also, in the first session I like to ask "if this was to be helpful, how would you know?". From these two places we can begin to develop treatment plans. And, of course I check if there are any questions for me and about me.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have been told by many sitting (or on screen) across from me that I have a calming demeanor. I like to meet people where they are at so I do not have a specific agenda prior, I am open. I am direct as well though, I am not one for just listening and nodding, you will get feedback from me, but never demands. I tend to be somewhat open at times with my own life experience's, if appropriate. We are all human and not alone. I am very compassionate, caring, curious, clear with my information, and creative.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I help clients learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with their inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent them from moving forward in their lives. This understanding helps clients to accept their hardships and commit to making necessary changes in their behavior, regardless of what is going on in their lives and how they feel about it.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize CBT by assisting clients to form a clear idea of their own thoughts, attitudes and expectations. The goal is to recognize and change false and distressing beliefs. It is often not only the things and situations themselves that cause problems, but the sometimes-exaggerated importance that we attach to them, too.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

The IFS approach identifies and addresses multiple sub-personalities or “parts” within each person’s mental system. These sub-personalities consist of wounded parts and painful emotions such as anger and shame, and parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts. The sub-personalities are often in conflict with each other and with one’s core Self. IFS focuses on healing the wounded parts and restoring balance and harmony among the Parts and the Self.

Eclectic

I choose to describe myself also as eclectic because I have practiced for many years and have training and experience in many different areas including addiction and recovery, family and parenting therapy, mindfulness based therapy, couples counseling, supportive transitional counseling, gender affirming counseling and culturally sensitive therapy
