Hello there! My name is Shajuan Alexander and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor! I operate my full-time therapy practice virtually for clients in Missouri and Texas. Who am I outside of a therapist you may wonder. I identify as a Black woman who is a wife, mother, social advocate, naturalista and self-care enthusiast. Authenticity/Vulnerability/Integrity are some of the top core values of who I am as a woman and professional. Helping people be human, acknowledging their emotions, creating firm boundaries and healthy relationships are some topics that are important to me and that I choose to highlight throughout my practice. I am a firm believer that in order for a person to be whole, there has to be a foundation of self awareness that can be gained throughout of upbringings or our experiences from difference individuals that we encounter. When clients experience me, I want to leave the impression that mental wellness is achievable. My approach in therapy is one in the same as in my professional career today. My passion is to work alongside my clients, to serve as a guided positive support and a representation of calmness through the chaos.
While in therapy, I value collaboration and conversation style sessions. While we are in our first session, you can expect to breathe, you may cry, and I welcome it all! Our first session together is for me to meet you where you are!
I offer to you an empathetic yet enthusiastic encouragement throughout sessions. I represent authenticity the same as my clients, with flaws, imperfect, vulnerable and still in a place of actively learning through every experience that we share. My strength is that I can see through the cape we call "perfectionism" and help my clients to heal and show up authentically as a result of therapy with me.
I utilize the 6 components of this treatment modality to work with clients who have are resistant to changes that they desire in life.
CBT is one of my favorites to use with clients who struggle with anxiety. Learning the root go how the behaviors trigger our emotions can be an eye opening experience. My clients benefit greatly from using the ABC framework.
In grief therapy, my clients and I use this safe space to process the stages of grief as they occur. I also help by providing resources for grief, providing reassuring feedback and offering many alternative methods of honoring the relationships that have been loss.
This modality is helpful for clients who want to find a solution to their problem and are open to try trying brief interventions weekly to gain empowerment on how they approach situations that they experience. SFBT can be utilize for EAP and short term therapy.
