My name is Katy Thompson and I work to serve those that know they can do better, but don't seem to have the strength they need to pick themselves up out of the ditch. I'm a licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes that this world is hard, but inside of us is something greater just waiting to be expressed and proved through a more fulfilling life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My first session will include reviewing the forms that were filled out and getting to know one another. We will talk about expectations of therapy, experience, and make a small goal for the week to work on.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe that my clients are the experts and their own greatest tool to finding something better. My belief in humanity is what makes me a great therapist. I'm ready to encourage and help anyone that is willing to give me a chance to be a part of their journey.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I have a background in in-patient and outpatient psych. I saw patients experiencing acute and chronic symptoms that caused much pain for brief periods to even extended periods of time. I believe that there are helpful solutions for symptoms both acute and chronic. I like using solutions focused because it doesn't focus on the problem more that the solution. We are not our problems, and better yet, we can overcome our problems or learn to manage them better.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I've used CBT since I started in therapy. I like to use worksheets and role play when doing CBT. I like this therapy approach because it's practical.

Strength-Based

I've used strengths-based approach since I started therapy. It's a positive approach to problems and treaches us to look within ourselves for the strength to overcome things that can seem insurmountable. Everyone has strengths, we just need to be reminded of them from time to time.
