I'm an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). I practice in Texas and received my master's degree at Texas A&M University - Commerce in 2020. I have 4 years of culminative experience working with clients who are survivors of domestic violence, people who are recovering from substance use, and individuals with serious mental illnesses. I help people understand themselves better, and make positive changes in their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session I will gather important information about your circumstances and unique challenges. I will explain my expectations and get familiar with your expectations. We will discuss your history with mental health treatment. You will have an opportunity to share with me what brings you to therapy and how you hope to improve your life with counseling. Sometimes people are in crisis at the first session. It is ok. We will sort through it and develop a plan to keep you safe and well.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have a lot of empathy with my clients and I have been told that I'm easy to talk to. I work to foster a therapeutic relationship and I I find that to generally be very natural for me. I have a strong sense of curiosity about people. I want to create a space where you feel welcome and accepted and valued.

My treatment methods

Adlerian

I use Adlerian therapy to help me understand how your particular birth order and childhood has shaped your "life story". A "life story" is a story that you believe about your purpose and meaning in life. I help you evaluate the effectiveness of your "life story" and adjust it accordingly.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you better understand how your beliefs feed into your thoughts and feelings and shape your worldview. Together we evaluate the helpfulness and accuracy of your core beliefs, we modify the ones that are causing problems or suffering. There is an emphasis on mindfulness and behavioral activation. Justin meaning that I will work with you to relax, and learn how to take things one day at a time and how to accomplish goals.

Christian Counseling

I am a Christian. I am a counselor; and I can be both in this capacity. I love to listen to what God is doing in your life and am happy to join you on your spiritual journey to better understand yourself and your position in Christ, to identify and develop your spiritual gifts and help you develop Christian centered coping skills.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I am a certified Cognitive Processing Therapist and I have experience in working with people who have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Sometimes, people hold certain memories that cause an extreme stress response. In this kind of therapy, you learn what you are believing and how it is impacting your healing journey in regards to recovery from the traumatic event. Our memories, not only hold the map to freedom, but the also serve as a key for understanding our pasts.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

This type of therapy is strongly rooted in excellent research. When using DBT, I help you reduce suffering and show you ways to adapt to uncomfortable situations in a healthy way. A lot of this therapy is about learning emotional control and distress tolerance. I will also work with you about identifying and understanding your personal communication style and how it effects your relationships. This is a common therapy to treat Borderline Personality Disorder.
