I've wanted to be a therapist since I was 9 years old. It's been a lifelong dream that I was able to achieve. My first experience with mental health is in a community mental health facility. I learned lots about major mental illness and skills training. I believe this time developed me into a therapist that "teaches" my client how to help themselves and how to relate to people on a personal level. My passions outside of work are DIY projects in my new home, crocheting, camping and my pug. I love reading romance novels. I am also a wife, mother and grandmother. I am a stepmother, bio-mother, mother of twins, mother of boys, mother of girls and have a variety of ages.

Are you increasingly feeling off (meaning, that you know something is going on that is causing a disconnect but you are not sure what it is)? I assist people with finding/repairing their focus on what is most important to them in order to avoid/lessen burnout. Together we can identify what is not working and develop a plan for how to address the areas of disconnection. Together we will work as a partnership to develop strategies to create "a present and future that makes you feel more fulfilled." In addition to focusing on the mind, body soul connection, I also integrate mindfulness, music and art to help you improve yourself. Throughout life's twists and turns, I am here to help. Seeking therapy is a huge step and for various reasons, many people do not. As a college professor with over 15 years of teaching experience in psychology, criminal justice, grief and loss, and addiction courses, my counseling includes evidence-based approaches to increasing coping skills and reducing common symptoms such as anxiety and depression. My preferred approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with a strong emphasis on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. This is a focus on the present rather than the psychodynamic approach, which reviews (sometimes endlessly) the past. I am a Certified Mindfulness-Informed Clinician and my clients report less anxiety after learning these skills. I believe in establishing a confidential therapeutic relationship to build the trust necessary for sharing intimate thoughts and emotions that promote growth, healing, and self-awareness. If this sounds like a good fit for you, please contact me to schedule an initial evaluation, to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. I look forward to assisting you in your decision to make a positive change in your life! Visit my website: https://sharongough13.wixsite.com/website.

Hi, I'm Dr. Nate. Do you find yourself feeling sad, empty, or unmotivated? Do you struggle with anxiety, anger, or behavior you just can't stop? Do you have a child who is struggling or a marriage that could be better? Life presents challenges and sometimes we or the ones we love could use some extra help getting through those challenges successfully. For over fifteen years, I have provided therapy and psychological testing in a variety of settings from private practices to doctor's offices, college counseling centers, and community mental health. My approach is to combine the best of psychotherapy with Christian theology to help others live the abundant life that is found in Jesus. I believe the mind, body, and spirit can all have an impact on a person's functioning, and it's my approach to address those areas that are limiting one's functioning.

Hello, I am glad you took the time to read my biography. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has a heart for people who are looking for empowerment and growth. I personally know what this feels like and how difficult it can be. I was blessed to have people in my life to help me during my "trying times." Honestly, I still do. I am Bi-lingual, (Spanish) and have been practicing for 13 years. I have worked with teenagers, adults, and couples. I do not work with children due to my lack of training. My experience entails working with addictions and various disorders. I believe in both therapy and medication and am cultural competent to utilize as resources. My heart is working with trauma and am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe that my job is to have my clients get to the point where they are no longer needing my services. That's right, to get myself fired! I believe that we were created in the image of the Creator which means the ability to love and be loved and to have the freedom to make wise decisions which help navigate us through this journey we are on. Thank you again for reading my biography. I wish you the freedom you are looking for and believe YOU ARE WORTH IT!

My name is Elvira Aleman Vaughan. I am a Christian counselor who works with adults who have depression/anxiety. If you prefer talk therapy I'll use CBT to help you get to the root of the issue. Or if you are open to trying a proven technique that is less conventional, I will use EMDR to help you heal and move forward.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Texas rather than a city like Dallas?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Texas from Houston to Austin! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Texas.

Will my therapist take EAP:UnitedHealthcare/Optum?

Yes! If you use EAP:UnitedHealthcare/Optum you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have EAP:UnitedHealthcare/Optum you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
