Diana Austin, Licensed professional counselor. I specialize in addressing anxiety, depression, and trauma. My approach focuses on identifying the underlying issues that may interfere with daily functioning and a decrease in motivation and happiness. I address the identification of triggers, learning to challenge negative thoughts, and becoming self-aware with the goal of having a stronger sense of balance in life. Other areas include strengthening communication skills, gaining more self-confidence, and feeling more emotionally connected to self and others.
Initial sessions focus on the precipitating factors that led you to seek therapy. I would like to know your experience and expectations with the therapeutic process. Secondary discussing any pressing issues that may need to be addressed in order to move forward with deeper underlying issues or concerns. I also would like to ascertain a basic understanding of what your specific goals are at the onset of our therapeutic relationship.
I became a therapist as I felt a strong connection and need to help others with their perspectives. Over the span of my 23-year career, I have worked in many settings that have enhanced my knowledge and afforded me a well-rounded understanding of mental health, substance abuse, trauma, relationships, and communication skills. I have developed a thorough understanding and a level of expertise that has resulted in the success of helping others determine how they can make a shift that can lead to a more peaceful and satisfying life. Goal setting is very important within my therapeutic practice. Do not feel that you have to know all of your goals at the start. I can help guide you in identifying what is the underlying content that will help you move forward. If you have set a goal, I will help guide you through the process of achieving each step. Overall, I will tailor the sessions based on your preferences and what knowledge you already possess in regard to your plan. I do assign "homework" at times which may include worksheets or helpful articles. These resources are important in order to help identify areas that may connect with you or simply rule out areas that do not apply. I promote a free-flowing progression with my therapeutic approach to ensure your evolvement is as accurate and successful as possible.
