My name is Marilee Melendez and I have been practicing for almost 4 years. I received my bachelors in Psychology from Texas Tech University and my masters in Counseling from University of Texas Permian Basin. As a first generation Mexican-American I deeply connect with how our cultural backgrounds affect our lives. I provide therapy in both Spanish and English. I have experience with trauma, immigration documentation, LGBTQ+, couples, children, adolescent, and adults.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions and identifying the challenges you face and want to work on. We will begin establishing goals and building the client-therapist relationship.
As a provider my biggest strengths are providing a space with compassion, trust-building, open-minded communication, versatility, self-awareness, and honesty.
I enjoy working with couples, adolescents, and adults the most. I like working with people who are truly invested in therapy and eager to apply changes to their lives. I like working with individuals who are trying to break generational trauma and have strong cultural factors affecting their mental health.
I often integrate humanistic and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to provide a comprehensive approach to healing. Our work will focus on understanding the emotions and behaviors that shape your current experiences. We will engage in cognitive restructuring to challenge and reframe unhelpful thoughts, while fostering the cross-cultural development and applications of healthy coping strategies.

TFCBT is greatly beneficial to help individuals heal and grow from PTSD, abuse, and/or any traumatic event.
I work with couples to address any issues or situations that can benefit to grow, heal, reprocess, learn from, and/or gain a deeper understanding.
It is necessary to consider how our cultural influences impact our struggles and identity. Our race, religion, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, etc., greatly impact our daily lives and it is important to implement these important details in everyone's treatment plan.
